Default Timing question

At the end, Widmore said: "Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us."

Now to me that makes it sound like Widmore hasn't sent out the ship, but it was a FF to Octover 2005...

Or the ship has been destroyed or something and he has to find it yet again

Widmore made it sound as though Ben himself had to find the Island also. Perhaps Widmore does not realise Ben is STILL on it.

Well we are still in 2004 or early 2005, which as of this moment Widmore is ON the Island, i.e. The Freighters. So I do not really understand his comments.

I really loved this scene - I liked the way Widmore spoke down to Ben - calling him "little boy/child".

I find this intriguing too. There are a number of possibilities that spring to mind:

1) The freighter was not in fact sent by Widmore at all. (Seems implausible)

2) The freighter was sent by Widmore, but never told him where the island was. (Seems implausible)

3) The island has become 'hidden' again in some way. (Invisible? Moved??!!??)

4) The freighter finding the island is still in the future in October 2005. (Yikes!)

But there's definitely something odd about that Ben/Widmore conversation. Not least Widmore's accent - didn't he used to be classic upper-class Brit? And now he sounds Australian. What's that all about - bad acting? bad continuity? Charles Widmore's bad (Australian) twin brother, also called Charles? Very weird.

Well the Freighters were all murdered by the Black Smoke as far as we saw so Widmore's mission has failed. From what Naomi said, this mission was difficult as far as finding the Island was concerned, so I doubt it will be easy to achieve again. It will take time.

VERY possible, atleast by Ben's use of words.

Excellent theory, but I cannot wrap my head around the specifics. I will come back to this.

Good point regarding his accent. Perhaps his time in Australia trying to find the Island played a part here?
