.....or perhaps he did. The smirk as he walked away from Sayid may suggest so. Widmore would have no reason to murder the wife of an Oceanic Six member, though that could be incorrect.
Ben and the Others are apparantly ALOT better at conning people than Sawyer, as Ben stated in early S3. I think Ben killing her would blur the lines which have seemingly settled down to illustrate Widmore is "bad" and Ben is "good" [or better at least]. Such a revelation later down the line will make for interesting TV and set us up for Ben's demise perhaps? I think the fact Sayid works for Ben unknowing of what REALLY happened - i.e. working for him under false circumstances is quite tragic. Of course perhaps Widmore did order her to be killed, along with the Coffin Man. Does anyone "buy into" this theory?

I guess Ben could of killed Nadia because it's his plan to get rid of everything Sayid loves therefore giving him no meaning to live his life so he now needs somebody to tell him what to do, like he did on the island so Ben kills Nadia and manipulates him into asking Ben for work thinking it was his idea when it was really Bens. So basically Ben's conned Sayid into working for him and doing his dirty work.

I think its a possablity. Or that it might indicate that Ben, indirectly, hired that guy to kill Nadia in order to con Sayid into working for him. Or that somone else killed Nadia and that guy is just one of those on Bens list that he wants killed anyways and just used Sayid to kill an inocent man in cold blood. It all amounts to the same thing IMO, that Ben somehow used the killing of Nadia to manipulate Sayid into selling his soul and working as a hit man for him.

I definately think so. That is exactly what my dad said to me on the phone last night! The idea hadn't actually occurred to me! But it would absolutely make sense for Ben to have Nadia killed...as he knew he could con Sayid into working for him. That smirk as he walked away said it all.

That guy did look a bit puzzled when Ben said 'My name is Benjamin Linus' but wouldn't the guy know who he was? Unless they only spoke over the phone or something. The 'I need you to send a message to Mr Widmore' could have just been a show for Sayid.
Or maybe he really did want him to go and thank Widmore for the lovely fruit basket but Sayid shot him first ![]()

It's very likely that Ben was ivolved in Nadia's death, if not as her killer then quite possibly ordering her assassination. It's very convinient that Ben knew exactly where to spot Nadia's killer in the crowd, I think that the "killer" was working for Widmore, who was there as a spectator to keep an eye on Sayid (possibly looking for Ben?). Ben could have then used his "death" to win Sayid over to his circle of trust and establish a link he could later use to get Sayid's help - like in The Economist.
I still think the "economist" is Widmore though.

I thought he was just surprised at the opportunity to put a face to the name.
I don't think it's that likely that Ben killed Nadia, directly or indirectly. It seems sort of contrived to think that Ben had someone killed, just so he could acquire an angry hitman. It also raises questions over who the guy sayid shot was, if it is true. Why was he speeding away from Nadia death if the printout is to believed, why was he hanging around her funeral, and why did he seem to work for Widmore when he confronted Ben (in a scene I'm reasonable sure wasn't set up, given that I don't think he'd have agreed to dying)? On the other hand, Widmore has absolutely no motive to kill Nadia, as far as I can tell. Quote:
Noor "Nadia" Abed Jazeem was Sayid's former childhood friend and long lost love. She was reunited with Sayid when he returned from the Island, and married him. However, she was murdered soon afterwards, prompting Sayid to work for Ben as an assassin.
