Light and dark OR: If Ben is Moriaty...

Im just posting this here because Im not sure about the theories and general discussion sections at the moment (Ill enquire about that later)

Interesting choice of the name again - was that deliberate on the producers part to cast Ben as the villian? Pretty strange choice on Bens part if he wants to protray himself as a 'hero' dont ya think? and who better to be Holmes? Charles Witmore, Bens nemiesis. Or could it be a case of role reversal, to show things arent as clear as they seem??

I mean, this seems to be supported at the end, with both Ben and Charles faces both half in the dark side, and half in the light. Both neturals - or undecided perhaps? Or just to keep us guessing what side they are on?

One things for sure, its clear who the "two players" are now.

Again another example of duality that I have been banging on about since day 1.

Just some final questions - Who is the netural in this? Is there room for netuality? or is there someone, as I suspect, who can bring the two sides together?

Some good questions there esn. I think everyone has a Duality so that is nothing new per say. I am very intrigued by Widmore's comments because we cannot work out whom is "good" and "bad" - though again why must it black and white? I think such a concept is outdated however.

I am not familiar with the name Moriaty, though I noticed how the Receptionist looked at Ben. I got the impression she knew who he was.

So Widmore owned the Island or something to that affect, but I cannot work out how or why. He is trying to find the Island, but he had ALREADY found it has he not? - [--S4 current events--]

I would like a Neutral character to come along - someone whom has history with Ben and Charles. Two powerful ego's [along with their intents/goals] would lead me to believe they cannot share the Island. Current events would illustrate Ben can never allow Widmore to take control of the Island.

To conclude, they are both villains but perhaps once upon a time Widmore was the good guy.

Indeed Reed you are right - dont mean good and bad has such, just not clear who is on what side - I do belive, and have done so for a long time that its not a case of one side being "good" and the other side being "bad", just opposites that need to work together. However, it is not being made clear who is one what side of light and dark, science and faith the sun and the moon, fire and water etc. Or maybe they are both neutrals - I dont know Im just guessing.

But what I mean is that its interesting that they (The powers that be) should give Ben the name Moriaty - who FYI, is a villian, the arch nemiesis for the Sherlock Holmes novels, who incidently (according to wiki at least) crept into Holmes room at night in a similar way that Ben did and both of them (Holmes and Moriaty I mean) issued ultimatiums to the other in their continued pursuit of each other, in a similar way Ben and Widmore did with each other.

I think I understand what you mean esn. I take it you mean in terms of Ying & Yang-Balance and so forthe as you have just stated. I would love for Ben and Widmore to be more than your typical Human Beings - to be something of a 'higher importance' or atleast be involved in something hugely significant in the grand scheme of things.

I think whatever is going on is far beyond "morals" - something people dwell on WAY too much on my opinion.

I think regardless of how bad Widmore and Ben are, ultimately we must either see the 'good' they are doing and/or what they are trying to accomplish - which for the record I believe to be of significant importance to Mankind.

It could be a subtle reference to Ben and Moriaty doing the same thing, an inside joke on behalf of Ben.

I think it is VERY interesting should Lost turn out to be a War between Ben and Widmore. Though inbetween there will/should obviously be MORE at stake than a personal grudge.

I can only imagine what Ben meant by "The Rules".

For there to be good there has to be evil. For there to be evil thee has to be good.
For there to be a 'neutral' you have to determine where the line is between good and evil.

Good point but I think there could be a Neutral regardless, though if Ben and Widmore are both relatively 'bad' then the Neutral would be more or less 'good'.

Well I think neurtral between them would be a weak point or a common bond. You need to differences to have neutral I think.

You mean their weakness?

I suppose if we take 'good', 'bad' and 'neutral' away from the equation we could simply have a third character to accompany Ben and Charles. I think whomever comes into the frame is likely to be a "bad guy" to some extent, unless of course we are introduced to someone whom is good 'through and through'.
