I got the impression that both men had a respect for the other, though I suppose old foes often express some form of admiration amongst the dislike. I cannot remember the words used but I think it was Ben that made it clear that he cannot kill Widmore - which was very interesting. I wonder why this is.

Actually Im thinking of terms of old mytholgy - whereby the sun and the moon would continually chase each other across the sky, each one vieing for dominance, before yeilding to the other.

I take it Ben NEEDS Widmore to stay alive for whatever reason. There are so many possibilities here. I think both are necessary for future events or something of a "higher importance" for Mankind - something along those lines.
