Is Karl Ben's Son?

Now I don't necessarily believe this, however upon rewatching this episode I viewed the dialogue between Alex and Karl in a different light:

Karl "At least we (himself and Ben) have something in common"

Alex "I won't tell if you won't"

Obviously this is just a throw away line intended to settle the audience down into a false sense of security before he gets a bullet through his lung...or is it?

Do Karl and Ben have more than wanting to protect Alex in common?

Again, I realise this has been speculated and negated on numerous occassions, but just putting it back 'out there'.

I don't think Karl is Ben's Son, for the simple reason that if he told Alex and Karl then Alex wouldn't get pregnant, which is probably Ben's major fear.
I do think that Karl's Parents are something to do with the plot though as it seems the writers have hidden his arrival and parents from us. Now Karl seems to have died I think we may get a few answers.
OOOh maybe he is Annie's(but not Ben's) Son. This could be why Ben appears to hate him, as he killed Annie, like Ben's Dad said he killed his Mum. Also a reminder that Annie didn't love Ben quite as much as we originally thought!!
I hope Karl gets some sort of flashback before he breathes his last breath.

I think that 'something in common' line simply meant that they both loved Alex. It was sort of an 'aww' line prepping us for his death.

Good point about him possibly being Annie's son - we've got to find out what happened to her at some point, surely! Ben is still fond of her I would think, since he still has the doll set she gave him for his birthday all those years ago. However, I would tihnk that he'd be more loving towards Karl if he was Annie's (or his own for that matter).

I personally wouldn't be too keen on a Karl centric flashback, but perhaps seeing him as part of someone elses FB would be good.

I still think that Karl is a threat to Ben somehow. I know he doesn't want Alex to get pregnant, but to be honest now we know Ben can get people on and off the island would Alex really be in that much danger??

Bit of a long shot, but maybe he was born on the island and is living proof that everything Ben says isn't as true as he says. This would make him and Alex really special and if they had a child this would completely overrule Ben as a leader.

I do think that Alex is in danger if she gets pregnant on the island, because I don't think Juliet's theory had been proven until Sun birthed Ji Yeon in 2005. So I can understand Ben's unwillingness to use his daughter as a guinea pig, but it's a fair shout that you make.

Interesting..Whilst I don't believe that Ben is lying about mothers and children dying on the island -as we the audience have seen this to be true on numerous occassions now - it is interesting to consider if Karl could be an exception, and what his offspring would be like. Would the island see it as 'special' ala young Ben and youn Walt..quite possibly.

Of course this is all speculation, but still worth considering.

True, that is also my belief, but for a moment when i rewatched it, I interpreted it in a different light.

Eitherway it was good to see Karl actually laugh..i think that's the first time he's cracked a smile since we saw him dwelling in the caves.

Yeah, I understand. No matter how simple a line seems to be on Lost there are usually hundreds of hidden meanings. Meanings which, in all honesty, I'm too lazy to find

Yeah he did seem like a miserable little bugger didn't he? Fair enough his girlfriends 'father' will do anything to keep him away from his daughter, but surely that's what every girlfriends father does. Or in my experience anyway... Even so if I was with Tania Raymonde I'd crack a smile. I was never a fan of Karl, he just seemed like a snivelling twit (as shown by his immediate ratting out of Jules - a supposed friend) so I wasn't much fussed about his death. Simply that it appears as though Ben sent him to it.

Exactly, he had a good looking girl on his arm and all he did was whine. It's to be expected that a father will scrutinise the guy who's taking his girl away from him - welcome to the world, Karl

Yeah, he was so quick to rat Jules at, he even beat me to it, i was like: Like you, I had little time for the guy. Could this be common ground..our very own Constant?

It wouldn't be the first time. Shan and Boone got intimate I'm still trying to work out what drove them to do that..i mean she's your sister dude! Shannon's quite hot and i suppose they weren't blood related, but he must have seen some things when he was growing up with her, and it's like there's a line...a line Boone, don't cross it

Here's a thought - did the island punish Boone and Shannon for incest? Not my belief, just came to mind. Damn my active mind
