Each week the staff team take turns on selecting candidates for Hero of the week based on the latest episode. The Other Other was unavailable last week and so I've decided to do the "Meet Kevin Johnson" villain of the week.
Below are my candidates. Please note that this is based purely on my opinion and you think differently - feel free to post your views and/or vote in the poll. ==================================== Benjamin Linus ![]() A man would do anything for his child..and so it goes, Benjamin manages to overlook the aggression and back-biting of Rousseau and Karl, and gives them a free ticket to the 'sanctuary' just so Alex can be safe. A small gesture it may seem, but his love for his ungrateful daughter is so natural and selfless. They often say that being a parent is one of the most thankless tasks..and so it goes.. ![]() Michael Dawson ![]() It's a murkey business this redemption malarky. There are wrongs and rights in Michael's return to the island..whilst it's easy to see the negatives in his coersion and the visible strings on his limbs and the attempt to blow his brains out, what I really appreciate is his attempt to make up for his past decisions. Not that his actions are not understandable..because they are, to me at least. But sometimes a path is so convoluted with right through wrong, that it's hard to know your head from your tail..morality becomes skewed. However i will not knock a man for trying to redeem himself if his redemption is genuinely for the right reasons. There was a moment on the deck when Mike realised just what team Keamy would be going to do to his buddies on the island, and from that moment I believe he was prepared to protect not his own pride and sanity..but the lives of his fellows. One of the most conflicted characters..but I sensed a bit of heroism in Mike which stretched beyond Waaaaaaalt ![]() John Locke ![]() Flying the flag for openness, John Locke removed the grenade from Miles' face (that'll teach him for tryiing to imitate the great mans Orange smile) and proceeded to keep everyone in O-town in the loop. This was not only refreshing but helpful, it even stirred a peep out of Claire, who I had feared had fallen off the side of the earth. John Locke runs neither a democracy not a dictatorship, but we need to bottle whatever it is he's doing because the world needs a leader like our John ![]()

I picked Michael... but Locke definitely came in second.

Michael. I felt so bad when Walt didn't want to see him - even though he had a good reason. Locke comes second because I can't be certain Ben didn't send the snipers to kill Karl and Rousseau. I like Ben but I have trouble trusting him.

I don't know how anyone could pick Ben prior to knowing precisely what happened to Alex and Karl, but mostly those are three pretty unpleasant people up there and I wouldn't call any of them heroes. If she was up there, I'd pick Rousseau, who put herself in the way of a bullet trying to get her daughter to safety.

I both lament and praise Ben in this episode. Obviously he sent Karl and Danielle to their deaths and spouted some unbelievable garbage about only killing the guilty. However I do praise his love for Alex because it's evidently clear that he dearly cares for Alex. And I suppose it's sickly loving that he'd care so much about her to kill anyone that may pose a problem to her and his relationship with her.
Can't stand Locke and will never vote for him to be a hero. Shouldn't be up there and should never grace a hero poll. So that leaves Mike. He bores me to hell and sends me to sleep better than Nytol. However I can understand his reasons and he's obviously deeply affected by his murders. He gets the vote merely through sympathy and that I feel I need to vote for someone, rather than truly doing anything heroic.

Since we have two murderers and one mass-murderer on offer, may I just put in a word for Miles? All things considered, I thought it was surprisingly open-minded (almost sweet) of him not to denounce Michael as an imposter, albeit perhaps not overly strategic. Still, given what we know of him so far, this may be the moral highlight of his career, excepting surprise redemption plot twists.
Mind you, I would sooner meet Miles in a dark alley than Ben any day of the week...

Sorry but I'm not a fan of Miles. His willingness to sell out his teammates on the freighter by helping Ben, all in order to get 3.2 million seems a tad dodgy to me.
That, plus he was in Saw 1 and got his head blown off via five shotguns after walking into a string. That's daft enough in itself. Yes there was cobwebs all over but if you feel the slightest thing against your lower shin stop damn it!

Why's everybody gone for Mike? I mean he's OK sometimes but he's killed two innocent people, [which yeah you could argue he's a distressed Father trying to get his son back and would do anything and he's not in the right state of mind blah blah blah but what have they ever done to stop him?] and now he's 'redeeming' himself by killing more people for Ben, therefore doing his dirty work. What heroic thing did he do in the episode? Ok so I know it's a catch 22 for him. He has to kill to stop people being killed which then means he can die but I just don't think he should be hero of the week.

![]() None of the options are shining lights when it comes to heroic deeds. But I'm inclined to vote Mike; he is at least trying to make amends for his past mistakes, even if he's been heavily malipulated into doing it and being made to do some horrendus things* *Question: Did Ben know that leaving the freighter adrift would cause the crew to start killing themselves? It seems very Ben-like; manipulating things into place so not to - technically - get his hands covered with blood...
