Talking Can't Die? The Logical Thing to Do..

(aka, what money-grabbing Miles would do)..

so Mike can't die because the island wont let him..but the logical thing to do would be to use this to spite the island and become a stunt man or something equally dangerous and earns loads of money doing it..cos at the end of the day, you'll never die and people would be astounded and throw money your way..you'd be like an indestructable super-hero (think Wolverine)..

Of course money wasn't Michael's motivator, the loss of his son, his pride, his morality and his freewill, were the things which ultimately drove him to want to end his life.

But still, thought i'd put another spin on it, since there's always options

Yeah! Imagine being able to survive a fall from an eight storey building or something like that.

Of course, just because you can't die, doesn't mean you can't be hurt, or end up in a wheelchair.........

Ah, good point!

..that actually made me think of Locke for some reason..

I'm also wondering how not being able to die, but being able to suffer physically (and mentally) relates to Alpert, Mikhail and the likes of Locke who the island appears to favour atm. Maybe the island favours Locke partly because it knows what he has gone through - it knows that he has survived great falls yet survived? Perhaps the island needs someone who is a survivor, someone who is death-proof even without any intervention or 'cushion'?

In saying that we could very well have the situation where the island itself prevented Locke from dying, not just when he was in the pit and not just after the 'crash', but all those years ago before he even came to the island..

I guess the knowledge that the island can indeed operate at an off-island level makes this possibility more possible..

I mean even Locke himself believes that the island brought him there, so i guess it also means that either the island brought him there because of his natural ability to 'survive', or because the island itself made him survive that fall and planned most things that have happened to him along the way..

So if Michael drove off a cliff into the water he would be able to breathe under water??

This cannot die thing is a little silly when you think deeply about it.

LOL, that made me laugh cos you have a point.

but i think the premise is that the island (or the islands control of fate etc) wont let it get to that stage..that is, it would do something to prevent the person from negating all probability of survival. So it could make the person fall and bang their head before they got a chance to drive off the cliff, for example..

I think the island can see 'possible paths', and so it can make events which prevent certain outcomes. If a person can logically survive a car crash, then it will 'cushion' the impact, but if like you say a person decides to kill themselves in a way which they cannot logically survive (i..e drowning), then the island will presumably intervene before the person gets the chance to execute their freewill in they way they planned. I guess the island can either see the future or can read/pre-meditate a persons subconcious will. I guess we know that the island can read a persons past (Eko v Smokey), so perhaps it can read a persons intentions and nullify paradoxes..?

I think it just about makes sense if this is the angle they are going for

When I read this I immediatley thought of Claire Bennet from Heroes.

I wonder whether they borrowed that idea from Heroes..

what is interesting about Claire bennet is that her pain threashold is incredibly high, whereas the island protected losties who get hurt (Locke, Mike etc) feel pain like any normal human, but their recovery rates are exponential.

I guess whereas Claire Bennet's indestructability is 'genetic', the island protected Losties are protected via the forces of the Universe - be it physical forces via intervention or the more spiritual forces (if you will) which replenish..

Interesting comparison to throw into the mix - thanks
