Will You Miss Karl?

Aww... I was very saddened by his death... he had so much potential.

I did like him but his potential was limited in my opinion. If he did not die now he would definitely have perished this Season.

Well, I percieved that he would start to gain confidence in the show... and perhaps start to emulate those around him... with poor results, due to the show's poor role models.

I hoped that him and Sawyer would have some sort of relationship... with Sawyer trying to mentor him about life in general, again... with poor results, possibly destablizing Karl and Alex's relationship...

But alas... thats more of a Season 1 type of plotline... we're at the point of super kills and magical cabins... no flashbacks to selling Photocopiers for Karl.

Actually that is a good point, he could have been an interesting B-character in possible comedic or even Semi-serious storylines with the likes of Sawyer or Hurley perhaps. The type of storyline that we break away to as a background to the main plot at hand. Well regarding Sawyer, I think he helped the Karl-Alex relationship.

Yes Karl would have fit nicely into S1 as far as TV time but at best perhaps we will see him again in an Alex flashback.

You have more faith in him than i did
To be fair to TPTB, they did give us Nikki and Paulo, and the fans weren't happy so they could hardly blow anymore life into Karl
But who knows, maybe a pulse still flickers through his body, lol

Well I saw Karl as more than just another relationship plot... in addition to adding his character, he could have evolved Sawyer into something of a father or older brother figure. Hopefully Sawyer will at least be affected in some way by his death.

Sawyer tried to protect Karl from becoming him in Confirmed Dead... it would have been interesting to see how Sawyer would have reacted if Karl did in fact emulate him. Would he try to chastise Karl saying he should follow his advice, but not his actions? Or would he clean up his act before his hatred and sense of vengence darkened a soul of the new generation?

But alas... perhaps I see more in Karl than there truely is... to be honest the only reason I initally started to like him... is because everyone here and elsewhere pretty much ignored his existance... Somewhere along the way though... I really liked the guy. He was kind, and polite (He called Kate ma'am). And his relationship with Alex was really sweet.

I cried a bit when he died... but... I guess I'm ok now.... RIP Karl.

I hear what you're saying re the potential to emulate Sawyer. That would've been interesting and there was certainly scope for it - as you mentioned. Perhaps they felt it would be too cliched (not my thoughts, but perhaps they thought it would be), or perhaps they didn't think he was worth investing the time in? Although it makes you wonder why they didn't just kill him in S3 instead of having him hanging around for 8 or so episodes of S4.

Yeah, I like the way he called Kate ma'am, nice to see someone else (other than Ben) with manners on that island. Perhaps you're right, perhaps as a template he had potential, but the Karl that I saw saddened me, and sometimes maddened me. To be fair to the guy I never really knew him - he might have been a really swell dude under those stars at night. I guess i'm protective of our Alex and thought she could do better to wait than to get with him. Hasn't Karl ever heard of a promise ring?
