Karl might be alive if he only had one lung, having the bullet pass through his body.

However yes I will miss him. But on the brightside, Alex is safer now that the opportunity of falling pregant has passed - hopefully. I think people tend to ignore the fact that Ben's harsh treatment of Karl was to protect his one and only daughter - AND only family member for that matter.

I would imagine Rousseau is still alive but suprising us with two false deaths during the Mid-Season Cliffhanger is wishful thinking. So yes Karl is more than likely dead.

Speaking for myself, I don't ignore that fact at all. I just think it's a poor justification, and in all fairness I think Ben recognised that too - torturing, abusing, imprisoning (and maybe even killing?) a person apparently perfectly capable of listening to dialogue simply ain't, in my view, excused by wanting to protect someone you care for. Especially seeing as Karl seemed to care for her just as profoundly. I still don't get why anyone thinks he'd be so willing to put her in mortal danger.

I think Karls definately dead, which I suppose is a shame. He was very puppy-like in the way he did every little thing Alex told him to, but he thought he was doing the right thing which i suppose is nice. Well, until he got shot anyway

I suppose to protect his "one and only" loved one he went to extreme measures which were very harsh indeed. But then again I suppose he thought Alex and Karl were both too stupid and young to pay attenion to him, for example. Karl would not intentionally put her in danger but accidental teenage pregancy is common - an obvious statement I know.

Not sure I would call what Ben did to Karl as "torture", atleast from Ben's point of view. We never really found out what Room 23 was for but debates indicated it was a 'brainwash/conditioning room' - that for all we know everyone has spent time in. Karl was probably put in there for reasons OTHER than Alex, possibly.

As nice as Karl was, he was a young man nonetheless and we all know what they are like.

I'm sure Ben believed what he was doing to be justified, but then you can say that about a lot of fairly horrendous people. What I find hard to swallow is the idea that even Ben believed it was necessary to resort to those methods in order to dissuade two apparently sensible young people who cared for one another from acting in a way that would cause the death of one of them. I just don't see why making sure they were aware of the facts would fail to suffice - I don't buy the idea that they'd be so cavalier as to ignore the danger (or that Karl would rape Alex, which is the other alternative - no way, frankly). And I don't think, hence 'Maybe I overreacted'. Certainly it didn't have the desired effect anyway - Karl and Alex seem (or did seem, till Karl apparently died) more in love than ever, and more adverse to Ben. So it wasn't really justified by result either.

Well yes a chat with Karl may have done the trick but he may have tried that already. Perhaps he thought they would ignore his warning and take a severe risk anyway? I would like to believe Karl became a massive thorn in Ben's side after several or a dozen warnings. Karl strikes me as a nuisance.

I personally as Alex's Father would not risk my Daughter dying and would have sent Karl off to Room 23 for "conditioning" though I would not order him to be killed.

I would have to question the logic of Alex and Karl purely because teenagers often ignore the need for protection for sex. Add this with the fact that I doubt there are supplies at hand on the Island and you may see why Ben resorted to extreme measures.

Teenagers think they are exempt from becoming pregnant for whatever reason and always take the stance of worrying about the consequences later and I feel Alex and Karl are no different.
