But seeing he said this after finding out Ben had played him with the Freighter Bomb. What can he mean ?

Does he have a plan ?

i think he believes by doing what Ben wants him to, he can finally escape the island and it will "let" him die, instead of jamming guns and just putting him in hospital

That is a point. When he said that i wondered whether he meant that he thought he was going the same way as everyone else on the ship...

Yeah, very powerful stuff from Mike (I love this guy)

My understanding was that the island prevents people from dying 'off-island'..but because Mike was back to the island (well, near proximity), he would have died had the explosive gone off. This would explain his fear and his "I love you Walt".

I like that idea.

I thought it simply meant he was on a 'suicide mission' - to complete his mission without considering his own welfare and hopefully dying to end his misery.

Though I suppose there is no guarantee that the Island will let him "go" and of course this is where an analysis of the Island and Ben come into play - do they want the SAME thing? I would assume the Island and Ben are working together - which makes sense seeing as Ben is saving the Island.

One would imagine Michael cannot escape Ben's 'wrath' and he is damned to suffer for eternity? However, Ben let him go home ONCE - perhaps he will again?

I feel sorry for Michael.

but seeing as the island wont let him die until hes done whats needed to be done, then maybe seeing as sayid told the captain why he's there, then he's in no danger of being killed

Incidentally, I think 3.23 Jack is also suffering from the same 'curse' - the inability to die - hence the island (if you subscribe to this idea) prevented him from jumping off the bridge by causing a car crash, which prompted Jack to change his mind.

I think all of the Oceanic 6 are or will suffer from the same 'island protection' (i.e. lack of freewill). The island wants them back, and so the only way to end their misery is to go back..(fate)

What insterests me is the man in te coffin - he was able to 'die' (unless the coffin is empty and it's a ruse ala Coopers fake funeral) - so why didn't the island prevent him from dying off-island?

Possible hints at it being Michael..and since he came back like the island wanted, he was then able to kill himself since the curse (if you will) was released..

(just musing and throwing things out there..)

EDIT: of course, i'm assuming coffin-man was also someone from the island..

I think it is Michael in the coffin thats why Kate doesnt want to go.

Michael does something good to redeem himself and what the island wants him to do but the losties dont now about it and they still remeber what he did on the island and how he left them. Once he has done what he is meant to do he is no longer invincible and he cant handle what he has done or someone gets to him, therefore dies.

Interesting comparison actually. I wonder whether Jack knew about the Curse at the time. I say this because his "oh, forgive me" insinuated he truly believed he would die.

I watched 3.23 a few nights ago so it is fresh in my memory. Kate seemed to have a look [and sound] of disgust so the Coffin person could very well be Michael. If this is the case I think it was decent of Jack to show up.

That would be tragic that he never gets to show everyone his redemption, or attempt at. Though with Sayid and Desmond on the boat, I hope word does reach the Island that Michael saves them - if indeed he does.

This makes me wonder whether Locke is invincible because he is the Island's Son as it were. Perhaps this explains why Ben cannot die because God knows many people have "tried" to murder him yet he is STILL here.

I totally agree about Locke and Ben. I think that is why Ben doesnt want anybody else to gain conrtol of the island else he could be in trouble.

I think Sayid might not be trusted in the future by the losties as he seems to in the future turn to Bens side and Desmond might be preocupied with getting back to penny though I think he will have a bit of trouble with her dad.
