I don't think it was the freighties that killed Danielle & Karl. I reckon it was a set up by Ben so Alex wouldn't have anyone else but him. We know he hates Karl and I doubt he's too happy about Danielle & Alex's reunion.

Or am I being paranoid?

I think exactly the same!! Just the look that Ben gave Karl when he was hugging Alex. He then called Danielle Alex's mother, which made me think that he was learning from his mistakes... now when i look back on it i can't help thinking, DAMN YOU BEN FOR MANIPULATING EVERYONE....AGAIN!!!!

It seems like it might be Ben, but how would he have set it up so fast? Not to mention Danielle, Karl, and Alex stop at an arbitrary place for a break, how would Ben have known they would stop there? Not to mention we've never seen the Others with silencers. The Freighties are much more likely to have silencers.

I think the foreshadowing of the guy shooting the clay pigeons, Ben saying the Freighties would use Alex against him, and the fact that Frank (and possibly others) left on the helicopter for an unknown mission point to someone from the freighter shooting.

Well Ben managed to get Juliet onto Faraday and Charlotte pretty quickly. And now he's not tied up in the basement anymore, he could quite easily get hold of a walkie talkie or something. I think he's been planning it from the begining, which is why he was always so keen for Danielle to take Alex away.

although i'm with you on the silencers, but maybe the Others ambushed the freighties after they landed

yeah, i go mad for conspiracy theories

You have a point. At first i thought it was Ben, because of the way he looked at Karl when he had his arm around Alex, we know he wants her to himself....but then i changed my mind and i think it's the freighties. I think it's something to do with what Ben said - they think she is his daughter and they want to use her against him.

I initially agreed, but that moment when Ben and Dani held eye contact right before she hustled them all out of there...I don't know. She knew something was up.

I think that set up was deliberate by the writers - I think they wanted us to beleive it was the freighters. But from experience of Lost storylines and the great mainpulative master mind that is Ben I would place my guess on Ben. It is always what you don't expect in Lost, and we are led to beleive it is the freighters from what you said above.

But no, remember what that psychiatrist woman (Harper) said to Juliet in the jungle 'Ben is where he wants to be.' Ben seems to always know what he's doing. And what he himself said to Locke 'I always have a plan.'

I don't think the shootings are the freighters and I don't think they are random at all. Karl was shot first and then Rouseau - both were an obstacle for Ben. As for how he arranged it etc come on, it's his island. He has connections and people working for him. Th
