Ji Yeon - Hero of the Week - Lost Community Forums - Official Spoiler-free Lost Fansite

Each week the staff team take turns in choosing our candidates for hero of the week - this week it's my turn, and I have posted my choices below. You may think differenty or you may concur and even decide to cast your vote - have your opinion heard:

JIN KWON

The very definition of an improved man. He stood by Sun's side when she wanted to leave for Locke's camp and had the ability to forgive her when he discovered that she had betrayed him by sleeping with another man. This is not the same Jin that crashed on the island 100 odd days ago, and good for him.

JI YEON

This ray of sunshine is possibly the only tangible connection to Jin that Sun now has. She will be vital in Sun's grieving process as she is Jin's flesh and blood. If Jin is still alive on the island, Ji Yeon will still be important in helping Sun to know that Jin is always with her, because Ji Yeon is with her. She also battled bravely to survive the cavern that is Sun's womb.

BERNARD

He's no "Rambo" but he can cook up a speech can our Bernard. Whilst I don't necessarily subscribe to his notion of "the good guys", I do appreciate the timing and the sentiment behind his much needed pep-talk. A rare chance for Bernard to shine.

Jin, obviously. Bernard just rambled on, and Ji Yeon was just born. Not exactly heroic... everyone has to do that

apart from James Earl Jones. He just is.

Jin or Bernard. I admired Bernard's philosophy of plumping for the morally sound option at all costs thing, but I think Jin gets it really for sustaining one of the two best and most consistent character arcs in the series.

Yeah definately Jin: he's changed such a lot from S1 and always for the better, whether it be forgiving Sun again and again for the secrets she kept from him or working for the good of the camp by fishing for them all. He's just a truly decent guy, that got better and better to watch.

And defiantely not Bernard, after his awful outburt about murderous Locke. Yes it was an accurate description, no-one can deny that, but why pick on him out of the dozen or so murderers on the island?

Maybe because (on top of the other suggestions I've offered) - a) the question of why Rose didn't want to go with Locke was the question under consideration, not why Rose didn't want to go with Sawyer, Sayid, Ben, Rousseau or any of the island's other murderers and b) because I don't think Bernard actually knows about what people like Sawyer, Sayid, Ben and Rousseau have done.

Oh yeah I can see why Locke was brought up because Jin wanted to know why they stayed with Jack, but I just still don't find Bernard's justification satisfying: that him and Rose aren't going with Locke simply because he's a murderer, and that based on his karma speech bad things are sure to happen to him. If he's so against that, it just baffles me that he's willing to be led by Jack who would happily have made himself a murderer if there had been bullets in Locke's gun.

Yes perhaps Bernard doesn't know about the details of every murderer on the island, but apart from Jack's determined attempts to become one he also saw Sayid murder an Other with his legs and was part of the team that stayed behind on the beach to blow a group of people up...Bernard himself is a murderer and yet he can still look down on Locke for his actions even though he's got a higher kill count to his name!
