For those who don't know the Tempest (which was of course the Dharma station in 4:06) is the name of a famous play by William Shakespeare. I won't go into details but here's a brief review. Shakespeare's play of "The Tempest" is about a man who is stranded on a deserted island and who controls aerial spirits. These, in turn, can be used to control the weather. The man on the island goes on to use this power of his for revenge on those who had previously usurped his power.
This thing with the name could be coincidence, but then again it's Lost. I may be the only one but I think the story of Shakespeare's "Tempest" has some similarity's with Ben, not least the island and revenge factors. Any thoughts?

Wow thats weird, It does seem to rain when the others are around, or when something bad is going to happen. Perhaps the others / Jacob, are somehow controlling the weather?

It made me wonder if Ben or Jacob were somehow controlling the weather. Also the man in Shakespeare's Tempest used his power to take revenge on his usurpers, and considering Ben used the Tempest station to take revenge on Dharma/ his father I think it adds to the similarities. I'll have to look up the rest of the play to see if I can find anything else.

The question is how? And why do they need it to rain so much? Maybe it's connected to the whispers.

Yes not all the whispers were in the rain, but still
Anyway back to the Tempest. I've went over the play very briefly and the story has 3 alternate plots - much like Lost right now (the freighter with Sayid and Desmond, Team Jack and Team Locke). This is just the beginning of the play because I'm still going through the rest of it: The man who was deserted on an island was called Prospero, and he was the rightful duke of Milan. He and his daughter, Miranda, (reminiscent of Ben and Alex?) were stranded for 12 years after Prospero's brother Antonio used the help of the Alonso, King of Naples to depose him when Miranda was 3yrs old. Lots of betrayal and family issues again.

I've just found something else.
Prospero is served, rather reluctuntly, by a spirit called Ariel (Alpert folks?) whom he had rescued from imprisonment in a tree. Ariel was trapped there by the African witch Sycorax, who had been exiled to the island years before and died prior to Prospero's arrival. Interestingly the character Sycorax is an unseen charcter in the play - like Jacob perhaps? Anyway, Prospero maintains Ariel's loyalty by repeatedly promising to release her from servitude, but continually put of the promise to a future date, namely at the end of the play. Sycorax's son, Caliban - a deformed monster and the only non-spiritual inhabitant before the arrival of Prospero - was adopted and raised by Prospero. He taught Prospero how to survive on the island, and in turn Prospero and Miranda taught Caliban religion and their own language. After attempting to rape Miranda, Caliban was compelled by Prospero to serve as the sorcerer's slave. In slavery Caliban came to view Prospero as a usurper, and grew to resent him and his daughter, feeling that they have betrayed his trust. Prospero and Miranda in turn view Caliban with contempt and disgust. Does the character Caliban sound like anyone on Lost? Sorry about going into so much detail, I'm probably reading WAY to much into this.
