Question Why was team Faraday hired?

It just occured to me that, possibly the frieghter 4 were not hired primarily for their skills.
All 4 of them in some way had a connection to the island before going on the mission.
So where they hired firstly for their knowledge of all things island / Dharma.

What supports this is, that Charlotte said she has work to do. Yet that doesn't seem to be anything to with anthropology as of yet. Also wudn't they send some of these skilled peeps in with the reinforcements, not an initial light first wave.

Frank- was suppoused to be pilot of flight 815 (Funny how he's now on the island. Some kind of course correcton or what? Wud like 2 know why he didn't pilot it!).
Faraday- The constant thing with Des. Was it his own primary objective to get to the island to contact his constant, or was he destined to go there once Des visited him in '96?
Charlotte- Seems to be very interested in Dharma, and had knowledge of them before the mission. Also seems aware that flight 815 was not at the bottom of the sea. She also had a fair bit of cash to thro around. Hmmm.
Miles- Possibly the least connected. At the momment. But was that Yeemi's grandmother he ghostbusted for?

They were recruited because they were the best that money could buy. Though seriously, yes they were all "connected" somehow to the Island with Miles being the questionable one here. Not to mention Faradays emotional connection with the Flight 815 crash on the TV.

I think Fate/Destiny has played a role here much like WHY the Survivors are on the Island. The Island may have "pulled" them there. For whatever reason Abaddon was determined to recruit these people in spite of Naomi's disapproval.

I think that perhaps to support your theory is that each of them were hired 'unknowingly' NOT for their skills, yet they each think they WERE hired for them, if that makes sense. Abaddon gave them a reason to believe they were recruited for a reason and he sent them off to the Island. Expendable assets perhaps?

I agree, they each have a connection to the island, whilst equally they each have skills (abilities/gifts) needed to get the job done..whatever that may be.

It may also be that because they have this connection, Widmore (correctly) extrapolated that the island would accept them, as opposed to rejecting them, ala Naomi (who appeared to have no connection to the island whatsoever) who subsequently died..

Perhaps the island's immune system (if you will) only facilitates the survival of certain people..?

It appeared to be fate that Frank (for example) didn't make it to the island first time around..yet destiny that he should willingly re-attempt to get there. Methinks that Widmore has somesort of system which allows him to find people who are predestined or connected to the island.

Leaves me wondering..Just what was in the journal..

As I said before... possibly on here.. together, all 4 of them are the perfect team for discovering the true secrets of the island.

Faraday: From a scientific approach. (like the time delay)
Lewis: From a historic approach. (like the 4-toed statue)
Miles: From a spiritual approach. (Jacob, anyone?)
Frank: Basically to transport all information that is gathered.

Crikey, I had forgotten about Matthew and the fact that we now have a direct link between Widders and Matthew..

Also, the fact that Matthew 'posed' as Oceanic perhaps distances them from this conspiracy and perhaps leaves Oceanic airlines as a mere conduit in events that led 815 to land on the island..

So, seeing as Matthew is left wondering whether any Losties are alive on the island in Hugo's FF, it leaves me thinking that whatever happens between now and then, Widmore doesn't get control of the island - otherwise Matthew would 'know' whether they are alive or not. Unless, he's not referring to the island and actually asking whether they're alive in the real world, which is unlikely, but would suggest that more left the island without the flashing camara's and paparazzi.

Oh no doubt - I think an important plot-point will be whether they're invested enough in Widmore's dreams, or whether they're ultimately out for themselves - both Charlotte and Miles (in particular) appear to be driven by their own ambitions - recently seen by Miles' blackmailing of Ben.

I think this could be a problem for Widmore, in that does he have loyal people working for him, or will they be turned by $3.2Mil and a visit to the 'Temple'?

Funnily enough, I think that Widmore has left his more loyal people on the boat - Keamy, Omar, Ray, Minkowki, Regina, Brandon and whoever else appear to be more 'focused' in corporate objective than the "F4", as seen by Frank's helping of Des/Sayid in 'The Constant'..

However, the F4, connected as they might be, appear to be mere puppets on Widmore's string..will they have the good grace to cut that string and hand it over to Ben before Widmore anchors in on the island..?

I think Miles wants the $3.2m cos he knows Widemore has no plans of gettng them off the island once he has what he wants. This $$ may be to blackmail Widmore or someone else, to allow Miles safe passage from the island once he's done there.
