Perhaps the best scene of the entire episode (I love smug Ben
) - Hugo and Sawyer playing a game of horse-shoe (what, are they that bored already? Surely Ben has a Nintendo or Sega tucked away somewhere? ).However, let's look at why they showed us the pre-Ben smugness. The horseshow was a blatent shout-out to the island's magnetism properties in my view. However horseshoes are also considered 'lucky' charm in some cultures - and Hugo himself also said "I guess i'm lucky". Whoa there Hugo - is this the same Hugo who bemoaned his 'badluck' for the best part of 4 seasons? I think this is kinda important, as since he's been on the island, Hugo's perceived badluck has kinda disappered, and I guess he's started to notice it. I think "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead" was the turning point in his own perception of his badluck - he ran that Dharmabus down that hill in a victory or death fashion and made his own luck. I find it amazing how the island has changed his perception of his own badluck - it wasn't so long ago that he was berating Locke for opening up the 'pit of doom' (or whatever he dubbed it) and suggesting that he crashed the plane! I guess the numbers were his main constant in thinking that he was cursed. Anyway, i find his new optimism interesting in light of his previous 'badluck' mindset interesting, that's all ![]()

It's got little to do with horseshoes but I laughed my head off at Ben. "See you at dinner guys!"

Isn't the magnetism a bit messed now what with the explosion of the hatch which held the main eletro-magnetic source? (At least I think it did, the orientation video said the Pearl was the station for electro-magnetism)

I concur about the magentism.
Apart of me thinks it might have been a throw away comment more than anything else. Although I do see your point that he does feel free. Like what he said to Bernard about him not having to worry about having $155million anymore - its almost like, hes finally realised that hes free of the numbers curse somehow. Although Hurley ought to be careful - No one on that island is turely free, and certainly, none of the O6 are turley free. I wonder if this could come back to haunt him. |
