Totally agree, I think that if you have the right will, then the metaphorical 'magic box' (aka the island) will facilitate astral projection and other happenings. I do think that some are more naturally prone to such things (Walt, Ben, the dead etc) but yes, as you suggested, i think that the whatever you want to be in the box, will be in it.

Who's Harper?

Richard is Richard Alpert - one of the Others and the "hostile" Ben first met when he was a young boy. Alpert was seemingly the one who helped Ben to wipe out Dharma and acquire the leadership status that he has amongst the Others.

Harper was Goodwin's wife - the woman who appeared in this episode (The Other Woman) as Juliet's shrink and who appeared in the rain to deliver orders to Jules.
