Is Goodwin's Wife Dead?

I'm thinking that she was a manifestation or spirit of somekind (I know there's a distinction between the two, but let's put semantics aside for now)..afterall this could explain how Ben is relaying and receiving information..and it would also explain why the whispers (i.e. the murmers of the dead) suddenly appeared..

The other option is that she's actually alive not to mention fleet footed, disappearing just as Jack turned his back?

So, what are your thoughts on Goodwin's wife and the message that she relayed to Jules? I'll post more of my thoughts on this later as it's all kinda fizzy right now

I sort of assumed she was dead, except if that's the case I'm a bit confused that Juliet didn't say as much to Jack - 'This is the ghost of a person I use to know' sort of thing. Then again, Walt appeared to Shannon and he was still alive, so visions don't necessarily equate to ghosts.

well the message was a blatent lie, charaday were turning the gas off - for good. that leads me to think ben was planning on using it, maybe to kill the losties or maybe when widmore lands.

but it was a great lead up to the scene with juliet in the tempest, i really thought she was going to shoot daniel! heart.in.mouth!

any idea what the whispers were saying this time?

I think it's likely... As far as I'm aware, she showed all the classic signs of Smokey-Induced-Visions, and those people tend to be dead.

If Ben actually did order Juliet to stop these people, the control that Ben has over Smokey is very interesting.

It also implies the possibility that he has control over the other visions as well ... not sure that works as I can't really see his sending Walt to help Locke after he'd shot him.

That doesn't make much sense at all, I agree. Perhaps it only serves to illustrate Smokey's position on the Freighter-folk (which was already quite obvious considering it told Locke to kill Naomi).

It's also possible, I guess, that the real situation could be some sort of middle ground - Ben can communicate with Smokey, but he can't control it.

Hmm, i'm not so sure. I mean if they were genuinely turning the gas off because they thought Ben would use it, why didn't they just tell Jack and co what they wanted to do? Whilst I don't think Daniel would intentionally do something against his moral code, could it be that their instructions are ones with false intentions?

You could be right, perhaps it was a pre-emptive measure, but something just doesn't seem right imo. I think that Charaday are quite shadey - especially given Daniel's memory issues - perhaps he's forgotten the real intention behind their mission?

Yeah, It was a great scene - similar to when Loce had the gun pointed at Eddie in "Further Instructions" flashback! Tense of what

Well considering Duckett's "It'll come back around" message to Sawyer (he later heard that same message in whisper form on-island), there could well be elements of past messages involved in the whispers.

yeah, exactly roco. perhaps all the others have this 'gift'. it may be the reason Ben chose them to come to the island - if they hadn't been there already. it appears he only wanted Juliet to help with the preggers problems and that he was mildly obsessed with her (lol). Maybe Ben, or Jacob, actually wants special people on the island. It would explain his fixation with Locke. And also after this ep I think Ben has that kind of power also.
