Ben's a Romantic - Lost Community Forums - Official Spoiler-free Lost Fansite

I've been arguing the case for many a month now, but it seems that this episode gave evidence to the idea that at heart, Ben is a romantic.

His scene on the cliff with Sawyer at the end of "Everyman", where he spoke lovingly about relationships first sparked my intriuge, and it now seems that his dinner date and vying for Juliet's affections seem to further show a 'softer' side to Ben.

I hope they explore this angle more, as there was also a little clue in this episode which suggests that Juliet looks like on of Ben's ex's. Goodwin's wife said that Jules even 'looks like her'. I don't think Annie looked anything like a Jules-type (unless she dyed her hair blonde in later life?), so could there be yet another woman who came into Ben's life at some point?

I see where you're coming from, trying to woe juliet with dinner and getting her the opera cds for her house but when it boils down to it to me he is just a control freak.

all that 'you're mine' and killing goodwin (well knowingly sending him to his death) just doesn't say 'i love you' to me lol. but it does show passion, something we all know ben has

You know, this angle did slightly creep me out. I'm sure if he did Smexy Ben then Juliet would have crumpled to her feet

Although when he yelled 'YOU'RE MINE!' I did go a little 'awww.'

But romantic? please. That's major bunny-boiling. Fair enough the nice meal and everything... it would have been romantic if Juliet had actually been aware that it would just be the two of them. There's a fine line between romantic gesture and just plain stalking, and i'm sorry but from my angle he's been bungee jumping over the line.
And plus, the whole YOU'RE MINE psycho babble added to the bunny boiling.

lol, you're right he does like his control does our Ben, but I felt so sorry for him - he knew Goodwin was a player and perhaps he didn't want to see Jules get hurt. He just expressed his love in the wrong way, perhaps?

I've always seen Ben as somewhat of a child..in that he never really got the chance to grow up - least not in a healthy and stable environment. He's very possessive that way and it's child-like rater than evil or egotistical, I think. He is clearly a genius and very intelligent, but it's almost as if that side of his personality hasn't fully developed yet.

I just feel sorry for the man..he knew he was a better man than Goodwin, and at the same time he didn't know how to express it. He's just misunderstood.

Hmm, although how did he 'know' Gooders would die. Ok, I do believe that he can perhaps communicate with the dead or see flashes or something, but i'd like to think that it was a sacrifice the Universe demanded (aka fate)

No worse than Jack stalking sarah tho..

I think Ben just needs to immerse himself into the real world more often - he's been on that island too long and needs to update his pulling techniques (I'm mean Opera? C'mon Ben put on the ole James Brown!

).
And most importantly he needs to learn that if she isn't feeling him, then she's not worth it. Jules isn't bad, i'll admit, but do you really want a psycho sleeping next to you Benji? Jacob's enough surely

Surely Ben is more of a psycho by helping wiping out the Dharmaites, shooting Locke in the back, throwing his bunny through a magnetic fence etc. Oh and don't forget yelling 'YOU'RE MINE!!!' at the top of his voice after showing Juliet the body of her dead lover

One minute she's little miss muffin and the next she's cat woman - seriously, this woman flicks between persona's more times than a candle in the wind

She also executed her good friend Pickett - which is up there with Jack's assasination attempt of Locke. She dragged Kate through the jungle under false pretences and is prepared to let all of the woman on the island die just so she can chillax back in Miami with Rach. Pretty pyshco if you ask me

He needs mental help not sympathy lol. And I'd agree he is very damaged but this shouldn't be a detriment to Jules, surely at the end of the day telling a woman she's your property is wrong, and something we quite rightly got rid of a few decades ago.
