Nods to Hims thread.
Ok I put this in Hims thread but I thought I would make my own thread on the subject because well I can. Bascailly, Im wondering, if Faraday has already jumped - forwards or backwards - to the island, hence his confusion and memory issues. This could be a result of the side effects that he mentioned. It might be that his concious is able to remain in this reality for longer than the usual. It is also worth noting that he seems to have left himself a message from the past that Desmond is his constant which could indicate that hes jumped, and then jumped back. |

I have only just pondered this but did that message magically appear [due to the time travel in the episode] or was it always there? Yet another confusing question. Desmond ONLY just met Daniel in 1996 and before this episode, presumably the messahe was NOT in Daniel's Journal?
With this in mind, I cannot decide whether Daniel has already suffered a variable Conscience. However I thought the Constant has to be something a person loves or feels strongly about? Why has Daniel chosen Desmond?

Not sure, although it is possible.
My personal take on it is that he may not have done any jumping (yet) and that his memory loss is either because the Universe course corrected Desmond out of his memory (did past-Faraday attempt to do something with the info Des gave him, that he wasn't "supposed" to do?) which subsequently gave him wider memory issues. Or due to over-exposure to the ray gun thing that he blasted poor Eloise with - he did, afterall, indicate to Des that he never wore protection on his head when dabbling in his mad science.. I agree that the message he left himself is important, however I think it's worth considering that this message wasn't left by him originally - it was only after Des planted 'new memory' into both their consciousness, and suggests that he hasn't been jumping himself (not yet at least). But then I guess we can't rule I out - as you say, it could be argued that when he forgets things, he is jumping to another time. Although I still think that his memory issues are more to do with Desmond, than himself. I also think we're now looking at time as not having an order (non-linear), as Faraday had memory issues before Des went back in time - which could also point to my previous idea of having a 'sense of' something before it's actually occured in our preceived real-time.
