Default 40 miles and 7 KM

Why oh why wud anyone use miles and KM in giving the same directions. Very confusing for a pilot.
Also looking that sketch, why do they have to make such a detour in approaching the frieghter. From the rear of the boat, they head 7Km (??) west, then North for a bit, then the 7Km East. Why cudn't they just approach from the rear of boat straight from the South East?
Also that squiggly line, whats with that? Giving rough directions any1 wud surely just put that as a straight line. I wud.

Also, why is the heli compass reading 150? Unless they in middle of a turn.

I believe they have to use specific co-ordinates because to do otherwise could result in bad consequences (related to time, perhaps). In this case, the quickest route isn't the best one. It's still not clear whether Frank followed Faraday's bearings 'exactly' - as mentioned, some of the readings are off and they still ended up in a different perception of time from when they left..

The ability to leave the island 'safetly' has a prescendent with Ben telling Mike to follow bearing 305 (or was it 325?) - so it's clear that specific bearings are important when coming to or from the island via physical means.

I think that the squiggly line you mentioned is actually the island and not part of the bearing..

Interesting note, but they cud of done with showing us just 1/2 inch more to be sure. But ya think ur right there.

Anyone else find it interesting that the instruments for the engine etc are not working (they use gayges to get their info). But the old magnetic ompass seems to be working (wasn't spinning like mad was it?). So why has the islands magnetic field effected gauges BUT NOT a magnetic instrument?
