Does BEN have the ability to time travel?

I've been thinking, and this has been mentioned on another forum, that it is possible that Ben also has the ability to time travel, and hence leave the island when he wants to.

Remember when they broke into his room he had amassed a lot of money (different currency) and Miles did say something like 'I know what you can do...'

It is just a theory and it really would not surprise me if it were true, but what do you all think???

Hmmm...I did wonder that too for a minute, that maybe he'd harnessed the 'ability' to do it. I say ability because with Des, George and Daniel, there seems to be no control over it and it's more like an experience than an ability. But perhaps Ben, Alpert and Co have been able to 'tweak' it and be able to do it at will.

However, after further thought I'm not so sure. I mean, the passports and money etc, what would that show? If it's the conciousness that's travelling then it's not like he could say...'right, I'm off to Brazil circa 1992 so I'll take this passport with me'. It's not 'him' as in his tangible body and possessions that are travelling. So I don't think those things indicate any experience of time travel. Just my personal take on it.

Yeah I know what you mean, there isn't enough evidence to prove such a thing, and you're right, it's an experience they have no control over - unless as you said, he has found a way to manipulate it (and we all know how GOOD Ben is at manipulating) to his advantage.

Like I said, this is LOST so nothing would surprise me.

Is is possible that IF Ben and Richard can time travel using their conscious is it possible they can bring objects back with them?? I.e Cooper??

Yeah it's a good suggestion, a few of us have also considered similar things in the past..

As SP pointed out, the Passports would suggest a more tangible method of Ben moving from place to place - as it's the consciousness and not the body per se which is able to travel within perceived time.

However, that's not to say that Ben doesn't have slightly different method's of travelling - perhaps, as mentioned, he has better control over time-travelling than Des, or perhaps he has flashes which he then uses to physically carry out his objectives in the real world.

Again, unlikely, but when it comes to Ben, it's possible..!

But Cooper said 'Dont you know where you are?' so how would he know where he is and how would they bring him back?

I think Cooper genuienly thought that he was in hell - hence the liberties he took in goading Ben, Sawyer and Locke

But yeah, i;m not sure if physical objects can be brought back with ones consciousness - perhaps other consciousness can, but then they'd require a physical body waiting for them at the other end, i'd assume.

But then I am slightly going against my original belief which is that the island's 'magic box' brought him to the island due to Locke subconsciously willing it to happen.

So, yeah..i'm in a state of confusion - damn you constant, now I don't know whether i'm coming or going

It used to be all so simple.. (wouldn't have it any other way tho)
