As brilliantly pointed out by Toby in this thread, there seems to be a distinct lack of 'the numbers' in S4.
I mean, they've had plently of opportunity to drop them in - instead they've chosen to go with the Oceanic "6" (and not 4, or 8) and several other passed-up opportunities. However, this episode saw the first occurance of the numbers for a long time - the number of Penny's house - 423 (4, 42, 23) ![]() I'm wondering whether this is actually intentional, whether it refers to something? I've got a few ideas, but i'll need to articulate them in the mean-time I thought i'd put it 'out there' P.S. the numbers probably have appeared in significant places this season - however about from the 'freighter four'and perhaps a few other appearances, I don't think they're as 'apparent' as they used to be. They even had Charles hold up a 755 card instead of a 234 card (for example).

Actually I remember seeing quite a few in this episode. I can't remember which exactly but I know when watching it I noticed quite a few numbers references.
I'm just wondering whether because this seems to be a 'blast from the past' episode that the numbers, which play a big role in the past of Lost, decided to resurface.

Sorry, I didn't mean this episode so much, although my mention of Charles' 755 perhaps indicates otherwise. I'm speaking more about the previous 4 episodes, cos I realise Faraday's number was also a 'number' reference in this eppy - 2.42 something..
Yes, it could well be due to this episode venturing back in time, thus resurfacing the relevance of the numbers.

![]() I mean that might just be a little easter egg kind of thing, there's probably an all the more reliable and real reason as to the resurfacing of the numbers.

Ive noticed quite afew in the past episodes but I'm wondering if they still mean anything anymore. When the hatch was blown up and the failsafe key turned the relevance of the numbers went with it, on purpose I'm guessing?

Yes, that's interesting. I only hope it doesn't mean that the numbers aren't going to get a proper explanation. Just because the hatch blew up, that doesn't mean the mystery went away ....

Oh yeah I totally agree. I just think they've moved on to other things but they wouldnt let them die out. If you see any of those numbers anywhere you immediately think LOST!!!

I liked the numbers referecnes in this episode. For me, it re-epmthisied their importance to the overall arch of the show and how they are important in getting ALL of the islanders to where they are at this moment in time. I have long belived that the numbers are intregal to whoevers running the whole thing and their appearance in this episode has given me more evidence to back this line of thought up. As Roco would say - Vindication.
