My Pre 4.05 Thoughts

Sci-fi, Economics and now Family dramas - S4 has thus far been a melting pot of themes and notions.

The pot was stirred further with the revelation that Kate becomes Aaron's "mommy" when she leaves/escapes the island - Claire dead? Let's hope so.

More importantly, is Aaron therefore one of the Oceanic 6? Possibly, but one would think that everyone knows that Aaron is not Kate's biological son, since she wasn't preggers before 815 took off on that fateful day. So along with Jack's lie that 'only 8 survived', it would suggest that either Claire really is dead (and one of the '2' who perished according to FF Jack) and Kate took on upbringing responsibilities, or Claire is still on the island, and for some reason Kate took on upbringing responsibilities. If the later is true, then they're keeping that story secret from the rest of the world.

Aside from Kate and Sawyer bed-hopping and cliff-hanger bomb dropping, we have Ben once again getting inside Locke's fragile mind, but hey "It's never been easy!", right John? If these are the obstacles he must face in order to find out what he has to do, then so be it - keep pushing that button John, cos you know Jacob only helps you when you're at rock bottom.

As for Ben he's positively confident that he'll be out of his current predicament within a week - could either Minkowski or Micheal be the ones to help an Other out? Possibly..but they'd have to get to the island first..

Which brings me to the Chopper boys (and Naomi), who appear to be lost in space..or in time..ah but time and space have a habit of enslaving it's servants. Crucially, we know that Sayid survives - but that is not the point of their AWOL - the point is to find out what happens to something when it leaves the island - the point of entry proved that time lags on the island, but what will the point of exit prove? Will this time delay be reversed, thus catapulting the chopper boys into (wait for it)..the future?

Have we finally reached the point where time is not viewed as linear but as a framework - a snapshot of our perception? If time is more a 'puzzle' than a piece of string then we are truely able to free ourselves from time and space - we can move the pieces according to our projected perception - is this what Ben is doing? Is this why he is always 2-steps ahead?

But of course we have an even bigger bomb than the Aaron reveal (for me at least) - enter 'VALIS', a world where perception meets reality, a world in which you do not what you're "supposed" to do, but what you're "Projected" to do. Is the island itself VALIS - the God of Ben and Locke and Jacob - a God who operates at a threshold which is above that of the real world (hence time issues) and that of the real worlds God?
