Jack Still Didn't Believe Ben About Redsox

What's Jack's problem, lol! I can't believe that he had to get confirmation from Frank as to whether the Redsox really did win the World Series!

I mean Ben showed him the tape and he saw it with his own two eyes - what's not to believe??

I mean the extent of Ben's manipulation can only go so far, Jack!

I'm wondering what this says about Jack's state of mind, that he was still doubting something he saw with his own two eyes. Is he paranoid or something?

I think it was a joke - I know nothing about the series, but I guess this was a thing that everyone found extremely unlikely, and Jack was using it to break the ice and raise a trivial and hopefully tension-popping. I think he just wanted to talk about home as well ... something mundane.

Really? Hmm, he looked pretty serious from what I recall - as if he was genuinely uncertain as to what Frank would say. It seemed to me as if he was worried that he had been duped yet again by Ben and his 'CGI' machine.

I'll have to rewatch that part again though as it's quite fleeting a conversation.

Well, I might be wrong - I only saw it the once myself, but I recalled it as a fairly lighthearted moment. Certainly Frank's response was. What was odd about it was that Frank didn't ask him how he knew.

I'm a "believe it if I see it" kind of guy, in reality (I do like my science fiction). But even if I was told - and then shown - highlights of Newcastle winning the league, I'd still find it hard to believe...

Not because I questioned the evidences authenticity, but because I would find the possibility of Newcastle winning the league (HUGELY) unlikely...

Good point. I wonder whether it's a continuity error or evidence of Frank simply knowing the extent of Ben's contact with the real world..

Hmm, I suppose ..I guess island life can disorientate the senses somewhat.

Although perhaps this is also an indication of Jack dis-believing what he thinks he saw. Could this also relate to a comment made by Locke in 2.01:

"I saw a pillar of Black Smoke try to drag me down a hole. I wonder what Jack think's he saw" (words to the effect of)

- Jack only believes in what is tangible..but does he now even doubt that what is tangible..that what he can see? After all, he hasn't really mentioned the Smoke Monster has he - and this is despite coming into contact with it on at least 2 occasions, if memory serves.

Yeah I know what you mean KoR with regard to Jack believing in things that are tangible. I think he knows what he saw, but I'm pretty sure he believes there's a logical, scientific explaination behind what the Black Smoke is...

Although I'd hazard a guess that the explaination will be far from 100% logical and scientific, mostly because I can't actually think of a scenario that is 100% based in this reality...

But like I say, I don't think he was questioning the evidence itself, rather it's possibilitly...

Like having a Royal Flush in a game of poker; there's no questioning it's there, but I would be thinking to myself I can't believe it (while trying to hide my obvious glea, of course...)
