Default The England conection

It seems theres a stronger and stronger element of the UK in Lost.
To start with Penelopee and her dad are English. Who knows what one or both of these are upto and how they involved.

Also in Ben's secret room there was English money and passports. But when we see him and Sayid off island, they are in the USA. So if doesn't seem to have to hunt any1 in England down. So why he need that UKK cash and passports?

Then theres Charlotte. Dharma/the company/ the economist must have a UK base to have found out about Charlotte and recruit her.

I think he needs them to get their to answer to his boss. The Economist. Penelopees dad!

Anyone else noticed anymore UK connections?

I think the show is now revealing more of a 'global' connection more than anything, although I do see what you're getting at.

Ben's passports are certainly a massive reveal I think - and it shows the scale of the 'game', so to speak.

It's amazing to think that Ben is actually pulling more strings than we thought possible. There was this man who we thought had never left the island..now we pretty much know that he is an extremely well traveled and versed man of the world. I guess the artwork and sculptures in his house (first seen in 3.13) gave us an early indication that he had left the island, but this episode really revealed just how worldly he is.

Going back to your post, I think that whoever has recruited Charlotte and the Freighties (Matthew's people..Neo Dharma? Widmore?) is extremely powerful and rich. Such companies operate in many markets and have the very best employees from all over the world. (sometimes) They also operate behind 'shadow' organisations (as Ben did with Mittelos) and are able to get hold of specific people with specific abilities - i.e. Charlotte and co. It would seem that she was knowledgeable of Dharma before Matthew hooked her up - she no doubt jumped at the opportunity to go to the island because it opened doors for her which wouldn't have been possible on her own.

As for Ben and his cash, passports - He's an international business man and so I think it represents showing us just how worldly and powerful he is on the outside, as well as the inside (the island). There's also the possibility that those documents are fake.

I think it all suggests that Ben has been hunting and dispatching those organisations and employees who present a very real threat to the island.

For me it's an amazing reveal, and it's only just now sinking in.

Welcome to the forum btw

Ahhh yes, nice points.
1 Question, why do you say Ben is a businessman?

And i almost forgot, the freighties are desperate to find Ben. But we now know it wasn't to kill him off. Was his also employed by the same people as the frieghties and broke communication or smt?

I see him as not only the leader of the Others, but also as a strategist - a businessman because in 4.03 he appears to be pulling the strings in order to prevent other companies obtaining the island (well, that's part of what I believe the Sayid-Ben partnership to be). The international passports and the money point to a man who is used to making corporate decisions.

I see this as a very 'political' game now, one in which Economics plays an important part.

It's certainly possible - especially if Matthew's people are Dharma. That would make Ben their former employee, since he was once a Dhamra workman before the purge.

My view is that after the Dharma purge (which must have lasted months, if not years, in total) Ben locked down communications to the outside world (mainland Dharma) and created his own off-island group to help preserve and supplement the islands concealment. Mittelos and the recruitment of Juliet is a good example of this, I think.
