Not so sure about that, but I see what you're getting at. I'm just saying that if he's German, then that kinda nullifies your point, but yes it is perhaps courteous for two people (foreign or otherwise) to converse, especially in a golf course environment.

Yes, agreed.
I meant by skin colour and accent - his parents or grandparents were probably not German though his accent imo indicates he has spent a rather long time in Germany if that makes sense. I could be wrong however. I was not trying to sound offensive in any way. Of course, any two people regardless of origin are just as likely to converse on a golf course - especially if it is not busy.

Hmm, I'm genuinely not sure - I think that he could easily be of German origin. Like you, I'm not sure that skin colour can determine where someone is from or not from, but even if we take this approach I would think he looks like he could be of German (or N.European) extraction.

I could also be wrong, but I would think he was more German than Iraqi, or what have you Not that it really matters

Well, the name suggests he's Italian.

Yes, Mediterranean would also work.

Although I thought I also caught him utter a bit of French in one of his lines to Sayid.

Of course by Nationality he is likely German - a full-time citizen with 'foreign' blood in the family tree. Though where the bloodline leads to I do not know. But yes either way he decided to talk to Sayid and that was the worst deicion he ever made. To add insult to injury, Sayid was rather rude [or shall we say sharp] to the man.

The name could be the name of a Step-Father for example, hence he need not necessarily be Italian. However the meaning is interesting; "the Patron Saint of Sudden Death". Perhaps he was a Hitman himself - a terrible one at that - unprepared for Sayid.

I think he is italian, he says 'eccellente' after Sayid agrees with the bet. Plus he offers 50 Euro, not Dollars or whatever.
