No, i dont think it was, but i think Sawyer is hoping for something to happen.

Surely Sawyer is intelligent enough to know the opportunity has passed. Both are hard work and I doubt they could make it work. In regard to Sawyer having nothing to go back for - well is not every day life a good enough reason?

To actually try and answer the thread question properly, I'd say that Jack does still care for Kate and on one had it could be argued that he cares more for her now, because he's not ordering her around and making so many decisions for her on her behalf. But on the other I think that Jack's treated Kate far from brilliantly, especially for someone who claims to love her. In my view Sawyer loves her more and cares for her more and treats her far better than Jack ever has done.

I think Ben was starting to break Jack down, with Juliette's assist. Though I can see why you think he would not have done it. I would have imagined he would have demanded the release of Kate/Sawyer because Ben only needed them to 'convince' Jack to do it if I recall correctly. I think it was either a huge bluff OR Jack really was going to let Ben die.

I never understood Jack getting mad at Kate, he risked Sawyer's life. But in my defence, that was Jack being Jack. He simply had pent up aggression from being locked up like a dog.

Sawyer has treated Kate quite appallingly in the past whereas Jack has always been a friend to her.

Of course Jack still cares for Kate. He sent her with Sayid because like he said, Sawyer would never let anything happen to Kate. He was very disappointed when she did not come back with Sayid. You could tell he wasnt expecting it at all. Jack and Kate have a strong bond and great chemistry though. Almost like a brother and sister would.

That's a good point and observation - Sawyer probably does care for her more and he seems to treat her better (when he's not being a nonce).

I can't even envisage J+K as a couple..I couldn't imagine Jack cuddling Kate or giving her a loving hug (I swear he's never even put his arm around her or made any tender motions, like he has with Juliet and her 'branding' for example), whereas I could see S+K happily goofing around and walking arm in arm together down the jungle trails.

Or maybe this is because J+K have never been in the situations that S+K have? I'm talking about the cages, where they were forced to find each other and were heightened by the fear of living on a Polar bear diet of fishbiscuits?

But yeah, I think Sawyer loves Kate more - as in if he'd stop being so selfish, he could love her more than Jack could. Jack just wants to fix things, and his 'love' for her is more obessession than 'love'. imo.

I think it is because Jack & Kate are passed the point of having anything more than friendship, almost like they both feel akward to make any kind of move toward something more.
