..as Ben said he's waiting for Jacob to tell him what to do - this from the man who's mantra was "Don't tell me what I can't do!"
I'm worried, not because I don't trust Jacob - I don't know him, but because Locke is seemingly less and less certain of which direction to take. You can just see Ben waiting for an opening..for an opprotunity to inundate Locke with insecurities. Whilst this deserves a slap on the wrist, Locke is surely asking for it - taking people to see Jacob - which by the way, Ben would never have done - and releasing Charlotte etc..

I'm pretty sure Locke's manta is "Don't tell me what I can't do", not what to do... Locke's quite open to being told what to do, and always has been.
The rest of it, I'm unsure of. Locke's still somewhat in that 'gung-ho' mode he's been indulging in since he arrived with his father's body in Camp Other, demanding answers. Ben found that mindset pretty much impenetrable to be honest, ironically because he's basically taken Ben's advice and stopped letting anyone tell him what to do, or disrespect him. As I posted in another thread last night, I feel his lashing out at Hurley was him asserting the dominance Ben mocked him for not having over Jack in the hatch. The important bit of though is that this mindset Locke's finds himself in only comes from his faith in the Island. If Ben hints that the Island/Jacob is unreliable or stupid etc. Locke could become lost and filled with doubt, as he did when he lost faith in the button.

![]() Yes, he is..but he's also very independant. He will listen but at the end of the day he does his own thing - a prime example is when Jack talked him out of going down the hatch in 2.01 - Locke listened to Jack's pitiful reasoning, came back to base and then collected some rope and went back off to the hatch ![]() I love that guy.

It's not a huge doubt really, I'm still behind him 100% but I agree it was worrying that he seemed so uncertain about what to do next. I worry that he is too susceptible to manipulation because he is plagued by insecurities. And I think that he should have had the perception to realise taking everyone to Jacob's cabin was a mistake. He just needs to take a more lateral view of things again and regain that virtue....patience. He will be guided but all in good time. I think his vunerability is subsiding somewhat though. He truely feels like he's living his destiny now and hopefully will stay true to form and not be led away from his rightful path.

I agree - kudos to Ben for having the eagle eyed vision to see a chink in Locke's armour. I've always said - like with Jack - Locke's strength is his Achilles-heel. His ability to be open to signs and visions, leaves him exposed when he loses them. Or they don't tell him what to do..
I wondered, during the episode last week (?) when the rain started and Locke seemed... surprised, if that was a hint of things to come, maybe he's on his own now?

I cant belive Locke fans are doubting the man! I can understand why (sort of) and feel free to correct me here.
For me this consistant with the Locke we know and love (ok some of us). Im not his greatest fan, but hes one of my favourite characters. Anyway, to the point, Locke has always been looking for guidance, and that is what I belive he is doing now. Remember, to large degree, hes been guided by the island, on the look out for signs that it may bring. Ever since his first encounter with smokey, to finding the hatch - I remember him telling Boone that if they couldnt get the hatch open then the island would send him a sign. Then further on with his second 'test' by smokey (we still dont know where it was taking him) and then with that dream hut (I forget what its called) and having that dream with Emi (Ekos Brother) and then finally that meeting with Jacob and then with giant Walt. Whilst I agree that he has been his own man to an extent and taken his own meaning out of things, given all those examples that I have listed, Im amazed to read from Locke fans none the less that his behaviour is in anyway out of character. (shouting at Hurley aside, I mean the dude does deserve a convincing explanation, not that he would understand it, but he deserves one none the less ). Relasing Charlotte made sense for the situation - hes still got a bargining tool with Miles. All I simply see it as is Locke looking for his next sign from the island and that means going back to the where he got the last but one from - and that is what he has always done. Unless Im mistaken - please correct me if Im worng. |

It was great to see the rain again acting as a metaphor for Locke's 'refound' purpose (i guess that was the suggestion) - although I am slightly concerned that they will 'overkill' that particular device. It's like, ok we get it - Rain + Locke = purpose

Locke is clueless. Give him a compass and map pronto or he'll lead his mob to certain death.
I suppose at least Jack don't need a ghost to tell him what to do.

![]() Although i'm not necessarily doubting him, just concerned with his relationship with Jacob. Who I still don't know that much about - I mean, I would feel more comfort if I knew he was a part of the island, but something tells me that no one 'man' an island ![]() Quote:
I'm not saying that Locke's current behaviour is 'out of character' per se, rather that after such an inspiring ressurection, hours later he is seemingly confuddled - referring to his saviour from immenent death as "Walt", rather than 'a manifestation of Walt'. Did Locke truely believe that to be Walt - as in astral projecting Walt? If so, I can buy that as it could go eitherway, but speaking so openly about things of this nature in front of non-believers like James leaves him open to ridicule and doubt. As seen by Hurley's contesting his clarity and Ben unsealing a few old wounds. I agree that this could be part of John's 'test', but the apparent leader of the Others (Jacob) is beginning to give me cause for concern. He seems very fickle and aggressive - desperately seeking a conduit. I'm also surprised that John decided to take all those people to see Jacob in the first place - they are not ready. Why did he do that? Why not take them back to O-town and then go back to see Jacob later? And what of these "instructions" Walt gave him? Where is this work? Is it being delivered to him in novel-like chapters - part one being kill beautiful Brit chick? Whilst I am not disagreeing with Locke's actions, I find some of his more recent actions a bit odd, but I support him 100% til death do us part.

To me there is no difference between Jacob and the Island - for me they are one and the same. Whilst it was Hurley who found the moved cabin (I cant remember it moving towards him) it is worth noting that Locke was also in the vicinity so maybe it was looking for him. I do agree with you in terms of him speaking about such things to non-belivers but again, he has done that b |
