They say "time heals all wounds" - quite literally in the case of this mystical island.
But when time on the island resides on a different level from the rest of the world, what happens when those wounds that can't be healed are taken off the island? I ask, because I am a long time believer that the dead in Lost are still very much alive..just, you know, on the 'otherside' (see whispers, manifestations, dreams). With that in mind, the demarcation between living and dead is pretty thin. So thin, that if Naomi (for instance) were to be taken OFF the island, she could stand a pretty good chance of being alive in the real worlds time line. Logically this should be the case, since the real world's time is different from that of the island. Where a fatal wound is quite simply fatal, if that fatality were to be taken to point of exit, would that fatality reverse itself, or is dead, dead? Except of course we know that the dead aren't dead irrespective of time and lines - Charlie visited Hugo - Hugo has the gift, therefore he can see. Yet he closes his eyes and wishes it all away - "They need you Hugo" Who needs him - the losties, the dead, the living dead? "Every living thing on this island will die!" came the cry, or have we forgotten? An then we have Sayid - a Torturer (thankyou for clarifying, Jack) to a Hitman..but not an alternate timeline..just later on in time. But you can't tell me that exiting the island has zero effect on the the lives of those who leave, or even the world? If time lags in one spot, you cannot step out of it with no consequence, with no knock on effect. Dharma cut, edited and spliced their videos - who's to say they haven't done the same to history, who's to say that the Oceanic 6 haven't damaged the earth-time mechanism? You can't disassociate yourself from the past - this is why Jack wants to go back, why Ben sought to purge, why ghosts still reside inside Hurley's conscience. ..unless you go (see: flash) forward, of course. Time has no bounds ![]()

So it's all about 'perception' then?
We 'perceive' time as being 31 minutes behind the real world, we perceive Others as being the 'enemy', we perceive reality in the way in which we can understand it.. Flashforward, Sayid is a hitman working for Ben...but why flash forward? Time is not linear...this is the measuring tool that we use so that we can understand time. What if time and moments in time are simply an assortment of chocolates waiting to be indulged at any given..time. A computer game records time via the tool of 'progression'. But with so many unfinished redemptions, it could be argued that progression for the losties is skewed. If time is not linear, then neither is history, or our memories. They are simply parts of the sum..pieces of the puzzle. And what is it Desmond said? "The pieces keep changing" Ah, so it's more about 'change' rather than 'time'. The payload moved from one perception of reality into another and our perception of time 'changed'. Sayid leaves the island, and his perception of Ben, changed. So what is everyone fighting to change? At the end of the day, the island is a magic box which can evoke change at will. With time rendered to a metaphor, "everything changes"..
