I never saw this coming..ever. Despite 3 years of speculating the nature of fate and coincidence on this show, I never thought it possible that the pilot's path was seemingly fated..
Seth Norris, the man who wasn't supposed to be flying the plane, ends up crashing it on an island. He is then the FIRST 815'er to be discriminated against by Smokey, who executed him on that first fateful day. Perhaps in a bid to ensure that the man with the most 'rescue' knowledge was out of the 'game'. How ironic that Frank should eventually end up on the island 3 months later, how ironic that he managed to land the helicopter, how ironic that his first island encounter is with Mikhail's cow- a less threatening island resident. Which begs the question, was it fate, coincidence, or a bit of both that caused Seth Norris and Frank Lopedus to exchange paths? Obviously we don't have much to go on, but we do know that someone (an outside agency - perhaps Dharma) manipulated post island events..and possibly pre-island events (as has been speculated for many years now). Any thoughts on this whole turn of events? ![]() ![]() ![]() Related screenies: Sundra Trench - possible portal / gateway to the island?? ![]() Matty and Naomi - sparse warehouse, no sign of Dharma, logos? ![]() Fake plane wreckage ![]() Newspaper reporting 815 discovery ![]()

I don't know how significant the switch is, to be honest - it just kind of makes sense for the person who feels he ought to have been on the flight to develop a powerful morbid interest in it. Too much sense for it to feel like a striking coincidence that Frank's now playing a big part in the story. I can't help but think that had Frank died and Seth survived, Seth would've done precisely what Frank was doing. But of course it'll feel like fate to Frank, which is an interesting observation about the nature of fate in itself - the way we, with hindsight, imbue either logical or purely coincidental occurances with a sense of fatalism and meaning when we happen to be personally involved in them.

Fate knows how to make a guy special, huh. Or perhaps it actually does. Locke, for example..
