I was extremely disappointed in Sawyer in this episode. I had warmed to him slightly in the premiere (despite his rudeness over Charlie's death). But to not only question why a human being was being kept alive, but to attempt to execute said man in front of his daughter is just despicable.
If it wasn't for Hugo, Sawyer would've put 2 bullets into "2-step Ben". I fear that there's no going back for Sawyer..I think Juliet's: "Neither of you need anymore blood on your hands", could well be a precurser of island retribution in the form of Smokey..one of these days. He also reminded me of Jack in this episode ![]() Were you disgusted by Sawyer's behaviour and treatment of a human being?

Well Sawyer killed Cooper in cold blood and most people didn't see it as all that bad. Sawyer is a murderer whether people like it or not. He's killed plenty by now so why would he hesitate to shoot Ben? He's probably been wanting to since he met him and now emotions are running wild and Sawyer himself has obviously lost it a bit since killing Cooper. And Locke was all for shooting him until Ben saved his own skin again
Almost everyone in Lost has held a gun on someone else. Jack, Locke, Sawyer, Kate, Desmond, Charlie, Sayid, Ben, Juliet, about 90% of the others... probably a whole lot more but I can't think ![]()

Actually I was gunning for Sawyer to shoot him LOL. I mean I unserstand the need to keep Ben alive for anawers but Sawyer was proved right - even Locke agreed!!

and if you think about it, people should be more disgusted by Ben's treatment of other human beings. He does nothing but lie and cheat and is just as capable of shooting someone in cold blood as Sawyer. Plus Sayid tortured Sawyer and Ben but i can't remember anyone saying they were disgusted by that

But I think he's determination to kill a man, simply because he teased him about Kate and Jack is weak. I don't understand why Ben deserved to be executed in front of Alex simply because he has a quick tongue..I mean Sawyer has a quick tongue aswell, but no-one has tried to kill him over it. Well, maybe Sayid, and Pickett![]() Hmm, re: Lockery, I think he was bluffing. It wouldn't make much sense him being so fickle regarding his moral stance..especially as he didn't exactly have much time for Charlotte himself. Yeah, I think Locke wanted to make Ben 'look down the barrel of his gun'..he wanted information and by jove he got it

Surely an "everyman for himself" kinda guy can understand that..yet he repeatedly tries to execute Ben because of his sharp tongue. I mean look how much abuse Ben has taken from these people, Karl and Danielle - I don't blame him at all for being the way he is. Not to forget he has a target on his head..and if he goes "then this whole thing falls apart" ![]()

Well it didn't look like Locke was actually expecting any answers really, to me he looked like he was well and truely ready to shoot Ben.
But Ben has so killed more than 2 people! He's tried to kill Locke... was okay with his cronies after Sawyer and Kate with the full intention of killing them. He also helped the 'other others' in the purge on the dharma people. and you can't say that that is any different to shooting someone in the head. In my opinion, Sawyer is just acting on raw and uncontrollable emotion - he's shaken up over losing Kate, finally finding Cooper didn't go the way he wanted it too, and there's the whole Freighty drama kicking off. Ben might be looking out for the island, but he has, perhaps indirectly, killed a hell of a lot more people than anyone else on Lost.

I thought Sawyer was just being pragmatic. Every time Ben opens his mouth, he's winding people up and causing trouble. He may have information, but how would anyone know when to believe him? He's totally untrustworthy. They can't turn him loose, but if they drag him round with them, he'll just be messing with people's minds. So killing him is not such a bad option, all things considered.
Of course, if he's harmless apart from his mouth, why not gag him? Actually, Ben's behaviour raises an interesting question: why does he set out to wind people up in that way? It's not quite the same as his manipulation of Locke in Season 2, where he was subtly setting Locke against Jack. This time he seems to be inviting all the beatings up. Does he really want to get himself killed? |
