Was Locke Going To Kill Ben?

He certainly sounded like he was when he was saying that Danielle should get Alex away from the area but the way he was faltering, and saying that other people should leave; it felt a bit like stalling to me, as if he was waiting for Ben to say something to change his mind.

I don't think he was planning to shoot him, I doubt he's that bothered if Charlotte lives or dies in the grand scheme of things - all she is is another way for him to get answers but, maybe he's got a bit of bloodlust after killing Naomi?

I don't see how he can be blamed for trying to keep his hands clean when he did the exact opposite by saying Ben is his mess, and then taking the gun off Sawyer after he offered to kill him?

I dont know about it. On one hand I think Locke knew that Ben was withholding some sort of information with regards to the freighter people, and he knew that pointing a gun at him was the only effective way of getting it.

But on the other hand, he may have been after some revenge.

I think he was - although he could well have been bluffing to get info. Deffo Sawyer had the intention to kill but this is Locke we are talking about. But you shouldnt point a gun at somones head without the intention to kill.

Well, assuming he was going to shoot him, he pretty much did find himself in the same situation, and it's quite apparent he didn't mind having it on his conscious while having his fall guy at hand. So basically I don't see how pointing out, in the way you did, that there was an option available that he didn't choose anyway, is fair on the character. It's not like Locke brought Sawyer along because he might need him to do his dirty work in case he doesn't feel up to it in the future - he just happens to be there.

I don't think we'd have a show left if someone fired everytime they held a gun up at someone else.

This doesn't seem very Locke-like to me. If anything, Locke's been taken for a mug for being too forgiven, especially in his flashbacks.
On the other hand, killing Ben could probably be justified as a rational step for Locke (and co.).

Lockes realised now that the only way to get informaiton out of ben is to beat him at his own game, lieing. Hes realised that he needs to sound like he means business and act out this lie to a point where ben feels that disclosing informaitno will keep him alive.

It's kind of in the nature of a poll to point out and consider all available options, regardless of whether or not the subjects takes them. Which is what I was doing.

i've been thinking about this, and at first i thought maybe Locke just wanted to scare Ben into spilling the metaphorical beans about as much as possible, but then I thought well Locke knows that Ben will say anything to keep himself alive, so his word can't exactly be trusted (although what he said at the end of the episode can't really be called a lie, can it).
But I genuinely think Locke had just had enough of Ben. He was probably still a bit peeved over the being-shot-in-the-missing-kidney-and-left-for-dead-thing.
