Ok I have just watched the first episode of Season 4-gripping

Very confused. How long has it been since leaving the island from when Hurley got admitted to the mental hospital? Why does the Island want them to go back, and what does Jack mean "did you tell anyone?" tell them what? Does anyone know these answers, or are these some of those things that will later be explained? lol If someone can shed some light on this Id be grateful! hehe x

To tell you the truth, I don't really have a clue. It should be later explained, I hope. And the episodes will get much much better. Sorry I don't have any answers, all I have are theories.

We don't know, but we do know (according to the newspaper clipping Jack was reading) that it was before Jack's forward flash in Through the Looking Glass - which was sometime in 2007. So this episode is perhaps a year or 2 after leaving the island.

We don't know for sure, but I would assume it's because they weren't "supposed" to leave in the first place. Locke once said that they were ALL brought to the island for a "reason", and that it was the "island" which brought them there - this would suggest that the island is trying to get to to come back to finish off the work they were supposed to do.

I would suspect that the island needs "help", by making that call, Jack initiated 'the beginning of the end' - which we are watching unravel now (i.e. Season 4)

and what does Jack mean "did you tell anyone?" tell them what?

I suspect he's referring to the Oceanic 6's true story. They are being treated like "celebrities" when in actual fact it seems they are hiding the true story of what happened to them - i.e. the island. The world doesn't seem to even know that they crashed on an island - only those such as Matthew know that the Oceanic 6 are hiding the truth about the island and their fellows (who are possibly still on the island).

Remember, Jack tells Kate - "we can't continue keeping secrets" (or words to that effect) in the Season 3 finale - this is in reference to what I mentioned above. So we see the decline of Jack's stance from the earlier Hurley forward flash (4.01) to the later (timeline wise) Jack forward flash (3.23) in which he goes from not wanting Hurley to "tell anyone", to actually thinking it's what they must do..

Yes that helps alot. Thanks. What do you think each others reasons were? They will all be individual, but it seems alot of them are dying, what a waste lol. Not sure why a few of them got off the Island and why some are still there Charlies words" They need you....you know they need you!" Im sure we will see all in good time about why some were left behind. Im guessing Locke will be because he seems to have a special "bond" with the Island. Excellent excellent script though!

Ooh, well I think that each of them are there for serve a grand purpose..and ultimate design, if you will. Some of them are perhaps there to merely facilitate the paths of others (Such as Boone assisting the path of Locke - even in death, for instance)

As far as individuals go, I think that they are indeed there because the island has indentified a need, desire or talent within them..one which they can relate to and one which can help the island. It's hard to say exactly why Locke, for instance, has been brought to the island however, but I do believe that it is destiny - aka a future which has already been written but which has not yet been realised in a desired way. The island seems to know the future, or elements of the future and what 'needs' to be done etc - with this in mind we could be looking at the need to put things right, the need to save the world from collapse, or perhaps the need for purpose..destiny, the need to 'do'. Perhaps it's a multitude of reasons..each person having their own calling, which the island can also use to achieve it's own ends (whatever that might be). A little like a game of chess, perhaps?

I agree, if Locke turns out to be one of the O6 then it's going to be interesting to see how he copes with this broken 'bond' - will it follow him back to the real world like Charlie did Hugo?..
