Did it surprise anyone else as to why Locke took Ben so readily? I can't understand his motivation in doing so - surely Locke isn't still hoping that Ben will be his "bestest bestest fwend" - being shot and left in a ditch of bones had to have finally killed off that... right?
Maybe he wants revenge on Ben, but that doesn't seem like the kind of thing that he does, except maybe rarely against Charlie. Or does he realise that Ben could be an asset in the fight against whoever is coming to get them? He knows more about the island and Jacob than the rest of them put together and would be able to help them in order to help himself. I want to say it's the third option, I really do but something in me tells me that Locke is still an OtherPuppy and is desperate for the inclusion that Ben could bring. ![]() |

he knows ben has answers and locke needs them
maybe this is why he took him on so easily or maybe it is option 3 that if and wen it comes to a fight then he has the advantage with ben and the last of the others only time will tell tbh x

I think it's a combination of things:
1. He knows Ben knows things that would help him and the other Losties survive 2. I don't think he ever really wanted to hurt anyone, Ben seems to beleive he will die if he doesn't go with Locke and Locke might not want to be the (indirect) cause of his death. Especially if he will be better off with Ben and all of the information he offers. I don't think he plans to get 'revenge' on Ben, afterall, he couldn't kill his father after what he did ti him.

Does that not define him as a killer though? Sawyer did what he felt he needed to be done, as did Ana-Lucia (both revenge wise) and Michael did in order to save his son. I adore the guy but this makes him a killer in my eyes, just like most of the rest of them. The end may justify the means but that doesn't mean that the means don't exist. |

It surprised me too - I was hoping Locke'd say 'Well, I don't want him' and Ben would be left stranded in the middle. But I suppose Locke was desperate enough to persuade people that his way was the best that he was willing to take anyone who vehemently agreed with him, and Ben certainly did.
Or, as someone else suggested, maybe he had no choice because Ben was bound to go wherever Rousseau did. |

Really we have 2 questions here:
1. Why did Ben want to go with Locke? 2. Why did Locke take him? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. I think Ben wants to keep his "daughter" safe. And maybe he thinks Locke is the best chance the Island has of surviving 2.Locke probably thinks Ben has knowledge he needs to survive and keep the Island safe. That said, I doubt they trust each other. ![]()

Another question is why, after telling Danielle 'I don't trust him with anyone else but me?', would Jack so readily give Ben up into the hands of his arch enemey? Maybe he was a bit stunned after Hurley's outburst and that fact that half the camp left him to really think it through...or maybe he'd got bored of beating him bloody and was creating a space for a new victim?
I reckon that almost anything could be done to Locke and he'd still be willing to give ground in order to find out more about the island and his place on it, which could be why he allowd Ben to go with him. He probably trusts him even less now and I'd be surprised if he actually likes him, but he does believe him about the danger the island's in and possibly thinks that he's now in a position to finally get real answers from Ben, because he's got his own team and all Ben has got is a bloody face and rope burns on his hands. And Locke could also be thinking that at times like this it's better to keep your enemies closer, so that he's got more of an idea as to what Ben's doing and planning.

i think becus jack dusnt trust him with any1 else but him is why he let ben go with locke, seeing as he hates locke and dusnt trust ben with any1 else its a perfect opurtunity to prove locke wrong by letting ben go with him
do you get me? i mean its less weight on jacks shoulders now plus he now has just the rescue mission in his goal, without babysittin ben aswell making it easier for him and trying to make it harder for locke x

Yeah I do get what you're saying...that Jack knows Ben is bad news and is dumping him on Locke, confident that Ben will be more of a burden than a help to him? And that Jack does have many things to worry about already without Ben being another one.
But if I was so certain that a person shouldn't be left out of my sight I would still keep them with me, regardless of how annoying, dangerous etc. they may be, because I would feel that I was doing the right thing in protecting everyone and keeping them safe. By allowing Ben to go free with Locke, Jack's also exposed Ben to half the camp - half 'his' people - possibly because of a selfish motivation: to get some further revenge on his enemy. But then again I can't be surprised that Jack has, once again, perfromed an action that's primarily selfish and thoughtless in action!
