Help me out here -
Am I right in saying that in S1 (possibly the pilot episode, or Tabula Rasa) Jack told Kate about a story in which had to do an operation on a young girl..he was scared and didn't know what to do..then he counts to 5 and all his fear went away.. Kate then used the same count to 5 technique after being chased into a cove by Smokey..after she's counted to 5 she finds the courage to stop hiding and go look for Jack Then, in the S4 premiere, Hurley counts to 3 (or is it 5?) on two occasions..once when Jacob's hut follows him around..and the other time when Charlie visits him at the mental hospital..after he's finihsed counting both the cabin and Charlie disappear - similar to the two examples above..i.e fears disappearing.. Now d'you suppose this has any hidden meaning..or is it just a random parallel. Obviously Kate's example is connected to Jack's because he told him that story - a story which was later used as a 'security' devise in "I Do". But i'm wondering whether Hurley having a similar fear defeating 'technique' has any important relevance. I mean one 'possible' relvance is the Oceanic Six thing..Jack, Kate and Hurley all appear to be members.. Again, not sure if this means anything, but rather out than in..or so they say.

I dunno, could just be a random parallel... of course that doesn't help you at all

I noticed this too, but I'm not sure of its significance. The other commonly repeated phrases' significance I'm not sure of either though.

![]() Yeah, there are quite alot of commonly repeated phrases..I've come to the assumption that some are pure random/coincidence..whilst others are there to allude to a parallel of somekind. This one..i'm not sure yet, but I admit it does seem random.

Hurley counts to 5 and things go away..... implying that it's in his head.
Maybe the smoke monster was all in Kate's head. And Jack's entire medical profession is in his head. Count to 5 and your delusions will disappear ![]()

This was a throwback to when Jack told her in the pilot, while she was sewing him up, that he counted to 5 when he was scared after he spilt someone's spinal fluid everywhere. She also used this method when she was hiding in the trees when the monster was chasing her, Jack and Charlie in the second pilot episode.
