Hurley's visitor

Sorry if there is a similiar thread, I checked but there does not appear to be. Any thoughts on the man visiting Hurley? I saw his name around here somewhere - Matthew Abbadon?

"Are they still alive?" - clearly the remaining Survivors are in danger? I take it they are still alive because I am under the assumption they will return to the Island otherwise Lost ends at it is in the FF.

Who does Matthew work for? Hanso, Dharma, The Freighters, the Others, Mittlos Bio Science?

I love how he said about a "beach view" for Hurley - perhaps threatening to bring him back to the Island?

Will Hurley willingly meet Matthew should he return? Will the man offer Hurley and Jack a return to the Island? How can Hurley escape the Mental Ward - can he simply ask to leave? Perhaps Matthew can get him out and vouch for his sanity.

Interestingly, Hurley's friend in the garden ALSO saw Charlie. Perhaps Hurley is not nuts afterall - well atleast not this time round. However when Charlie slapped Hurley, Dave also slapped Hurley and Dave was imaginary.

Can the Black Smoke manifest itself OFF the Island or was Charlie REALLY there? Re: Dave perhaps he was real, a ghost perhaps? My point; Hurley is sane. Did Dave ever exist on the Island as Charlie once did - did he work for Dharma? Who knows.

Back to Matthew - will he return?

I like him - he seems like a nice fellow though I was disappointed he did not challenge Hurley to a game of Connect 4 to break the ice. But there we go.

Well his name "Abbadon" is from Revelations. He like releases the demons or something, I don't exactly recall at the moment.There has also been some talk of people seeing a wisp of smoke as he is going out the door... frankly it's just crazy talk though.

never challenge people in mental hospitals to play connect 4 trust me.

but yeah this guy is definately creepy. He could be working with the people who sent the freighies. Or Dharma, or maybe he was telling the truth and he was from Oceanic, and Oceanic have been behind this all along?

He said he worked for Oceanic but Its difficult to believe that. He must either be an other that is trying toi get back or one of the boat people people.

The chap that saw Hurley was Lenny wasn't it who went mental becauseof the numbers maybe its the numbers that allow Hurley and Lenny to see Charlie

Didn't anyone think it interesting to see the parallels with Locke and Walt in S1? The chess board set out on the table, two sides, one dark, one light. Matthew obviously being black to Hurley's white. It just made me think of Walt and leads me to wonder if that's who Matt was referring to with his 'are they still alive' talk.

And for the record I didn't think it was Lenny in the mental hospital but I'm just going to check something out before I say who I thought it was.

Well he's certainly not Oceanic - I could be wrong, but the lack of business card is a giveaway..and a schoolboy error on his part

What really intrigued me was the fact that Hugo 'switched' games, if you will. The Connect 4 and the Chess have been mentioned..but I found intrigue in the fact that Hugo literally got up from his Connect 4..and moved to the game of Chess, where Matthew was sitting. I think that this 'switch' is relevant, and is 'possibly' related to Hugo's regret in going with Locke in the island story of this episode. Did Hugo later 'switch sides' on the island? Is THIS how he ends up off the island and one of the "Oceanic 6"? It would certainly help explain how people from both teams end up off the island..aswell as his apparant guilt..

Just an observation..probably meaningless, but I thought i'd throw it out there, as they say

Maybe Hurley's friend is the new Dave ie imaginary too

Re Matthew I thought it was strange that he ran off like that I did wonder if he is also a patient at Santa Rosa and likes to think he is something to do with Oceanic

This has led me to wondering something (though not to quite the theorising level)... connect 4 is a rather childish and simple game whereas Chess is a 'man's game' - before the meeting Hurley was preferring to hide away, begging to be sent away from having to deal with the real world, reverting into a sense of childlike happiness (though the way he seemed to be demanding the guy to play with him seemed as though he was struggling to hold onto this sensation) and after he moved over to the chess he wanted to go back to the island, he's realised that he couldn't bury his head in the sand and be a big kid, he had to try and act like a grown-up. Perhaps sitting down to chess rather than going to see him at connect4 was a way of drawing Hurley away from his sanctuary and forcing him to realise this?
