Jack and Locke - the third way???

Following on from what I mentioned at the end of the above topic, I would like to pose the question in general:

Is there another 'third' way?

I mean we have Jacks way, and then we have Lockes way.

The result of which, is Hurley saying that he shouldnt have gone with Locke, but at the same time, saying that they shouldnt have left. If he is right then does this mean that there is somhow, another option? I mean, as we saw in season 3, Jack was begining to have doubts in himself, although Kate wasnt?

Or (has I like to think) is a clue to there being infact 3 teams on the island - the two opposing forces, ying and yang, science and faith etc etc and the side that seeks to balance the two out, that that is the true purpose of the island. Only its gone worng, and the world is doomed and that is why they need to go back?

At the end of the day, Hurley should create a group called 'the losties' and lead them to the beach Sounds silly, but it sounds like it'd be a lot safer than both Jacks and Lockes groups.

I think they need to go back to fix something; to help someone. I do not think this divide is fixed and permanent by any means and members of both groups will interact eventually. I doubt they will become enemies bar Jack & Locke of course.

Not sure why Hurley went with Team Locke just because of what Charlie wrote on his hand, as "Not Penny's Boat" does not really deem the Island Newcomers [The Freighters] bad people does it? If anything Hurley should have gone with Team Jack because Charlie gave his life to unblock the signal and not wanting to leave the Island means he died in vain.

Thank you Lauren, perhaps I missed something but as far as I know there was no reason [in 4x01] for the Survivors to believe these people were bad - except for Ben's ranting. But nobody listened to him anyway.

Hurley said something along the lines of - "Charlie spent his last few seconds alive writing 'it' on his hand so I think it must mean something". Well yes it was an important piece of information for Desmond but not really for the Survivors.

Good point there, but perhaps there is a logical explanation as to why it is not Penny's boat without Naomi being a liar - unlikely I know. Perhaps Penny's boat "was" there before but was not at the time she spoke to Charlie? I would need to rewatch that scene to back this up however.

If I were Hurley I would take my chances with Team Jack and rescue.
