Default Post Island Jack = The Sam Toomy Syndrome?

It suddenly struck me..post island Jack, scarred, self loathing, obsessive, deranged..reminds me of Lenny..or to be more presice..Sam Toomy.

Sam Toomy was the guy who overheard 'the numbers' from the listnening post in the South Pacific - the same numbers which he believed brought him bad luck.

Whilst i'm not suggesting Jack is suffering the same situation as Sam, there are some similarities which perhaps deserve some investigation.

Sam Toomy believe that everyone around him died..he believed that everyone excpet himself suffered as a result of hearing the numbers:

Martha Sam and Leonard were stationed at a listening post monitoring long wave transmissions out of the Pacific. Boring job. Sam hated it. Nothing to do but listen to static night after night. Til one night, bout 16 years ago, there's something in the static, a voice comes through, a voice repeating those numbers over and over again. A couple of days later we're at the fair in Kalgoorlie and some wally there has got this jar, must have been big as a pony, and it's filled to the rim with beans. Fella's offering 50 grand to anyone...

Hurley Sam used the numbers?

Martha Yep, the answer was exact... to the bean. Men had been running the same scam for 40 years and nobody had ever come close. So we won the money. On the way home a pick-up truck blows a tire on the highway, hits us head on. Lost my leg that night.

Hurley What about Sam?

Martha Barely a scratch. Most people would consider themselves lucky, but not him. He was never the same after that. He started keeping a record. Anything terrible that happened to anyone around us, he believed it was all because he used those numbers. He moved us out here in the middle of nowhere hoping it would stop.

Hurley Did it? Did he ever find a way to make it stop?

Martha Yep. He put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. What is it you're looking for Mr. Reyes?

Sound familiar? Could it be that the man in the coffin (in Jack's forward flash) is not the first person in Jack's post-island life to meet a grissly demise? Whilst Jack is seemingly still heroic (lucky?) (saving people from burning wreckages), those around him (inclusing the woman who crashed as a result of his suicide attempt) or those 'connected' to him appear to be suffering (eg. man in the coffin).

Of course there are exceptions to this rule, such as Sarah..but I thought i'd put this out there to see whether anyone can spot any potential in the parallel between post island Jack and post numbers Lenny/Sam

To be honest, Jack is one the most irritating screen characters that I've ever seen. Though I like how they've developed his personality - he is confused, raised in dysfunctional family, unstable, has many complexes, bitter and full of rage. The more episodes passed, the more he became annoying and always in a way (if you know what I mean). His syndrome "I've gotta fix everything" became really problematic for other characters on the beach especially for Locke and Sayide.
The climax was in this episode Through the Looking Glass. His behavior was beyond everything! He is so reckless and shallow as worst as it can get. Sorry for all those who love him and respect him, but it's just frustrating how he jeopardizes everyone because he is unstable and insecure in himself.
