Default "How'd You Get This Frequency?"

Yes..how DID Charlie get that frequency?

Or more to the point what was the Looking Glass' video-com doing pointing to Penny's channel?

It would suggest to me that whoever was last using the video-com was the person who left it on that frequency (channel)..which means that they were speaking to Penny at some point..or perhaps her father (Charles), seeing as she was so baffled by the whole thing ("This is Penelope. Penelope Widmore. How did you get this frequency?..What boat..who's Naomi?")

Also, why did the video-com ring..as if the call was incoming..when Penny later asks Charlie "how did you get this frequency?"

So:

Was Penny in her fathers office?
Why did the video-com produce an incoming ring..yet neither Penny or Charlie were the callers?
Who was the last person to use the video-com (before Charlie)..Bonnie? Greta? Mikhail?
What were they doing speaking to Widmore?

Hmm..all very confusing, but I think this adds to the Charles Widmore/neo Dharma conspiracy and might even hint at Ben having a mole in his now slender ranks (Alpert?)

[Tangent] I'm very much interested in why Ben did that at all. Did he know "Dharma" were coming? And he cut the comms under the 'distraction' so not to alert his people and to keep that 'illusion of freedom' alive? [/Tangent]

If that's the case then you could be right - there could well be a traitor within Ben's ranks, presuming it wasn't Ben himself

Or maybe it's less cynical than that. (The Looking Glass is Dharma, after all) If I was Dharma - and I was afraid of someone tampering with my communications to, say, contact a loved one or use it to recruit people for my Othery needs I'd only have it on one frequency. Which could well be Widmore's home - maybe he was Dharma's external recruiter? Back in the day...

So, think of the Looking Glass as the Bat-phone for Commissioner Gordon It only has one frequency/line?

I was guessing that it was Penny's doing - that when the sky went purple etc., her people managed to tune into that frequency and hadn't let it go ... not that the station itself actively wanted to be found by her.

I WAS THINKING THIS! but never got round to mentioning it. Ever since hearing Penny say "how did you get this frequency?" it's been making me wonder all those things.

I think Widmore has a lot to do with this...

Unless it was last used by the Dharmarites..perhaps moments before their resistence was broken? T'is unlikely that The Others wouldn't ever use it though Or perhaps this is how the Others request a food drop? Not that food drops are necessarily 'requested' (automated?)..perhaps it's Widmore or whoever is batting for both sides..

Agreed
(although it's also possible that Ben didn't know exactly what not pressing the button would do and once the sky went purple it was only then that he decided to send that gals down to the LG - so basically it wasn't a long con, but a something which he reacted to after he saw the purple sky and realised that the island was visible)

OOPS, kinda gave my opinion on that above - but yeah, It could well be that Ben wanted to find out what Locke and the button were all about (we know he could see them via the Pearl), so perhaps he wasn't absolutely sure what would happen but when he realised that the button hadn't been pressed and the comms went down (island momentarily visible), he decided to safe gaurd the island and any 'potential' tracking by sending B+G down to jam the island So perhaps the jamming was more reactionary than pre-planned.

Interesting..Ben batting for both sides you mean? interesting.. My money would still be on Alpert (if anyone)..we know he travels to and from the outside world..just what else does he get up to when he's out and about

Yes, good point..perhaps it's only got one frequency and Penny is simply at the location of that frequency. Although it would be somewhat coincidental if it were anywhere but her fathers office So as you say in this scenario it must surely be Charles' home/office.

I'm willing to pull the fate card on this one... although conspiracy works too.

Penny's house was called by fate, there was a malfunction. The call ended. Penny said, what the? *69ed the number and called Charlie back... as the number was restricted and no one was supposed to know about it.

Just my random theory.

I remember jokingly saying, quite a while back, that Ben could well still be pulling the strings for Dharma. Pre-purge, if Dharma knew they were doomed, what do you think they would do? If I knew my group were going to be over-ran and I also knew that the work my group was doing was of the greatest importance, then I'd still want that work to be complete. So Dharma take the bullet but use Ben to continue their work. Alpert: "We want to get back to more important things".

There's lots of evidence; Dharma still seem to be functioning: the food drops, the outside contact (that the Others, I presume, didn't have until they 'purged' Dharma.. and so on)

I've always believed that there's a distinct similarity between Dharma's methods and the methods adopted by the Others after the purge. In my opinion, The Others picked up where Dharma left off. Even if, originally, it was the last thing they wanted to do...

I suppose Penny could have been in contact with Greta & Bonnie for some reason or other and they could also be in contact with Naomi & Co double crossing Penny but I am yet to think of reasons as to why G&B would be in such a position

It would be great to see Bonnie and Clyde again in flashback working for Widmore!

I'm not sure that Alpert quote works well with regards to this because he was quite conclusively a "hostile" (or so we're led to believe). But Ben definetely has more secrets (not necessarily 'bad' ones..just ones he feels he must keep), so this could potentially work. In fact a better quote to support this idea is "I was one of those smart enough to not end up in that ditch" - when referring to "his people" (Dharma). If Ben is playing ball with Dharma then it is most likely to be Dharma dissenters (i.e "One of those") who haven't made the full transition to 'Other-hood'. Otherwise I sense they would've found a way to take Ben down by now (assuming they were long conning). But yes, a co-op with Dharma could certain explain the active food drops.

Although I should stress that it's possible that Ben and co are/were running this whole shabang w/o any Dharma help..Mikhail was quite adept at the communications side of thingsd and Alpert is his right hand man who is capable of acting as an off-site recruitment officer. The food-drops could also be automated and perhaps the Dharmites off the island are/were unaware that their people had been purged..or they themselves had been purged in an off-site Dharma take down?

I guess the possibilities are very much open at the moment.

The Others use their equipment and some of their baser principles and techniques (Ben grew up with them)..but I disagree with any subtle 'Others-bashing' as imo there are distinct difference between Ben's Others and Dharma's pretencious hoodlums.

I would think that Ben and the Others cleaned up a mess rather than picked up where Dharma left off but there you go. It's also interesting to consider whether the 'hostiles' needed help simply to remove Dharma..or whether they also had other problems that needed resolving

I just can't see that being the case at the moment - Penny asked "how did you get this frequency??" - which I take to mean that she received that frequency (looking glass hatch) for the first time or that her channel had never received an incoming call before

I think Bonnie and Clyde were legit..straight as an arrow in terms of them not being duplicitous. They were loyal servants of Other-hood.

Now Alpert..I just can't help but think he's been up to something backstabby..especially considering he leaves the island from time to time.
