What Locke hears just before Walt appears - No spoilers on the link btw
^^The whispers are back, just as Locke is about to shoot himself and right before Walt appears an eerie voice can be heard over the music, and someone on that website has apparently deciphered what is said - "I have eternal hell to pay" Whether that is the real translation or not I dont know but it really does sound like it. So the question is, what the hell does that mean? Does it relate to someone on the Island? Locke? Ben? ![]()

Interesting...
I would guess it has something to do with vindicating 'oneself' - and my guess, considering his current predicament, is Jacob - He's trapped, by whom we're not sure, but I would guess he is trapped for a reason...Ben said "Well, I certainly hope he helps you, John." So "I have eternal hell to pay" was like Jacob saying, "sorry Locke dear boy, but I can't help you at the moment but I've sent a manifestaton of that boy you like" Maybe :P

My bet is that it's Jacob..as someone said, he is trapped..most likely he is trapped "between places". Charlotte Malkin was able to go "between places"..i reckon that Jacob is stuck between the realm of the living and the dead and his 'life' or half-life is only being supported by Ben's imagination.
IMO, Jacob is able to manifest beings and even 'borrow' abilities from them (ala a certain person in 'Heroes'. I wont mention who in case you haven't yet seen Heroes) - hence why he is able to manifest 'Walt' to carry out deeds that he physically cannot. IMO, Jacob needs Locke's help - hence he couldn't allow Locke to kill himself in that ditch. As ILWL touched upon, (Jacob is paying for the cost of living) - he was once loved by God but has since been sent to do something..perhaps he has to prove himself, before he can return up the ladder to God's kingdom? Jacob is not a 'man' (not anymore), but he is many things. He is not God's son, but he embodies half spirit, half physical attributes. Don't take it seriously, im just speculating ![]()
