....... Did the Others fake the plane crash off the island, and thus, 'they're all dead'?
![]() Or is the Purgatory theory gaining credence again?

But why would the others want to make everyone think that 815ers are dead??... i mean its not as if the rest of the world knew they were 2000 miles off course.... This purgatory thing seems to be coming up everywhere this season...

Here are some of my random thoughts about this episode (which I watched yesterday btw):
I felt happy and relieved for Sun that the baby is Jin’s (phew), but that puts her in another predicament now. I felt sorry for Juliet in this episode. Even though we know she is working for Ben it was clear to see she was unhappy and was having to struggle with her own conscience…she wants to do right by Sun (her instinctive caring ‘doctor’ role appeared dominant) which is counterbalanced with this covert research she is being forced to do (as opposed to working alongside) – clearly she was unhappy. It’ll be interesting to watch her in the upcoming episodes and see which way she eventually swings; will she let ethics come in the way of Ben’s research and ultimately her way off the island? I think one thing she is realising is that these people are not just guinea pigs they can use – they are real people – this was apparent during her whole discourse with Sun where she shared in the joy of seeing her baby for the first time and showed empathy for her whole situation, it was not something put on to deceive, it was genuine. This was especially apparent when she struggled to leave the secret message for Ben at the end. I think this is why I feel especially sorry for her and why she has my sympathies – she is in a no win situation. I therefore believe she will eventually be killed off at some point. ![]() The other thing of course was…Mikhael’s still alive!!!!! Does this mean 1) the protection barrier did not in fact kill him after all but just stunned him or paralysed him in such a way as to look like it killed him? OR much more fascinatingly 2) the island can bring people back to life as part of its incredible healing properties. IF this is the case that means theoretically Ethan, Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia et al could all still re surface (I wish)…what do you all think??? It’s more likely to be the first scenario but you can’t help hoping. And last but not least…who is that mysterious girl and what did she mean there were no survivours found on the flight??? Does that mean the survivours have also been resurrected from the dead by the island??? ![]()

I'm going to start off with a bit of a major grouch about the retrograde gender politics in this episode, which probably doesn't sound much of a fun read, but there we go. It'll be over by the end of this paragraph. So. Apparently Sun considers being told that she's pregnant with a child that's going to die and then kill her 'good news' because it also comes with the info that her husband's the real father. Because men get ultra-potent on the island and women just die. I bet no-one going to suggest a termination. But anyway. Apparently consolidation of a relationship blighted by an episode of infidelity (for which I'm, with total frankness, utterly sick of seeing Sun called nothing but a filthy cheating harridan while Jin gets manfully away with alienating her – that's just so you know where I stand) is more important to Sun than her life. Fine. Whatever. Sorry, but no. Sun's life is worth enough that her iminent death shouldn't be considered good news, whatever's thrown into the bargain. It's certainly not less important that the Kwon bloodline and family honour. And is this really good news for Jin as well? Wouldn't he rather trade his blissful ignorance for Sun's life? Well, maybe the flashback was trying to suggest otherwise (I mostly didn't see the point of that flashback). But I don’t buy it.
And don't agree to go into the jungle with people who wake you up in the night with a hand over your face and insist you go unaccompanied. That's just asking for trouble. If I was Sun, I would've insisted on Kate's company: she already knew about the hatch, so Juliet could hardly have complained about her coming. I really enjoyed Juliet's off-the-record 'I hate you' to Ben though. That made me laugh. I think Sun's pregnancy was genuinely news to her, but I did hear a good theory online about what she's up to. What if the baby isn't Jin's? It's Jae's, which means Sun won't die, but if Ben thinks she's going the way of all the island women, Juliet can pretend to have saved her, say she's fulfilled her part of the bargain and get off the island. Which I don't actually believe is possible, but still. It's an idea. That said, both Juliet and Sun seemed entirely accepting of Sun's fate. What about the magic serum? Was that just a fib? The other significant plot point was Mikhail's coming back to life… or maybe he wasn't dead in the first place and just has a way of subduing his pulse very cleverly. I don't know because Desmond wouldn't let Charlie ask him, apparently because Charlie's 'people' have killed more people than the Others. I don't like that phrase because it's Damon Lindelhof's answer to 'Why are the Others the good guys?' and it's kind of like saying Jack the Ripper's a good guy because he isn't Hitler. Also four of those killings were performed by Eko and Ana Lucia, both of whom are now dead, and I'm not entirely sure why a big group of people who had nothing to do with it have to do penance for it, and anyway none of this seems to imply that the Others might not want to poke wasps' nests just in case. GAWD. Charlie could do with a smidge more repentence over his having shot Ethan very much to death though. I know he had very little reason to love Ethan, but no pressing reason to shoot him either, and he seems to have got over the angst that recall he had back in the day unhealthily quickly. Is that what praying for forgiveness does to you? Takes the guilt off so you never feel you did anything wrong? But either way, the whole Mikhail thing was not, in my view, a great plot point because now we're just going to be waiting for the rest of the dead to rise from their graves. Unless he wasn't dead. In which case, where was his pulse? And why did no-one just blurt out 'How did you come back to life?' No-one says the right things in Lost. I think that's because it needs to last seven seasons and because some of the answers to the theories and ideas are quite easily undercut with more pointed statement than the characters are allowed to make. Possibly that sounded kind of cynical, but the unnatural withholding of what people would naturally say is beginning to feel like a right cheat. The final revelation was good, but I doubt it means that the real flight 815 was really found with its passengers real dead bodies on board. If she was telling the truth, I'd hazard a guess that this is a set-up by whatever powers are behind the crash (assuming there's more to it that Desmond's mistake) to prevent any further searching. But then why was Penelope still searching for Desmond? Does she know that the wreckage is a fake (speculation)? Other point of interest: Mikhail mistranslated the Portuguese 'thank you' note. Apparently what she said was something along the lines of 'I'm not alone'. |

Looking at it allegorically, though Purgatory was ruled out, I don't believe Hell ever was. But have they not said 'they're not all dead' at some point?

Hmmm.... nice episode.
It really removed any dislike I had for Jin and Mr. Paik. The only reason Jin acted the way he did at the begging of the season isn't because Mr. Paik forced him to be a hitman.... it's Sun's fault!!!! Well, not really, lets just say it's Prostitute Mama's fault. As for Parachute girl.... she sure can speak a lot of languges.... although, I don't think she said "Thank you" it sounded more like she was giving out info about herself... something important... but Zombie Patchy didn't relay the message. Very nice ep indeed... and It's Jin's baby!

I don't think the Others could've organised such a thing off island... and the plane crash seemed such a surprise to them I doubt they could've handled the logistics. I reckon another group (Hanso?) is behind this.
