I've always wondered this, maybe its just the fact the writers wanted us to know that this girl was Alex and thats why they made sure the others called her this. Theres enough mystery surrounding lost as it is so maybe they wanted us to know this without there being any mystery surrounding it.

After all if the others didnt call her Alex, that scene in the hunting party wouldnt have had that wonderful suspense when Tom called her out would it.

Thats my take on it anyways......

I did wonder if it was just easier for the viewers but it could have added to mystery if we thought she was someone else and Danielle saw her then called her Alex or a more boring version could be that Danielle said at the beginning they took Alex and now call her ....

yeah i think it could be his mother too, because i do think Danielle is Alex's mum, because they've casted it really well for that to be the case. I think they do look very similar.

Perhaps she faked her death in the purge and got someone to smuggle her off the island on the sub as an escape from Ben (like Julia Roberts faked her own death to get away from such a horrid man in Sleeping with the Enemy)

You could also call it a tragic event which he nor his mom had no control over. I would like to think that she died for a reason and that God has a plan to reunite them one day, so they can make up for the lost-time. Time which Ben needed his mom's nurture, time which his father spent abusing him and blaming him for a tragic event he had no control over.

It's easy to blame him, but I suspect that Emily would've wanted for Roger to treat him like a star and look after him. Afterall she lives through him..you could even argue that his ability to see her was in part due to their connection.

I wonder whether Aaron would've been labelled a "born killer" had Claire died during child-birth? Ironic, seeing as Ben's actions probably ensured that both Claire and Aaron survived.
