3x09: Stranger In A Strange Land

As a stand-alone I still don't have a real problem with this episode. Of course it's no Deus Ex or Exodus, but for some reason i'm rather drawn to it. I like the intimacy of it and how it defined the character of Jack.

Again, not an award-winning episode, but a worth-while watch.

Thanks for the pic of the branding Reed! Interesting that Juliet and Jack are the only two doctors and both are "branded" and although both our excellent leaders, they are also outcasts of sorts. Juliet is/was an outcast among the Losties and the Others and Jack was an outcast in Thailand and now again in his personal life back home.

I guess, for Jack, being a leader is a lonely place. In this ep. he was told his definition by 'lady of the night' and that seemed to scare him, if not shake him to the core. What is he scared of..what is he afraid of?

I really enjoyed those scenes, i'm surprised it gets so universally bashed Don't get me wrong, i'm not a big Jack fan, but there's an underlying charm about that episode. A caged leader in love with the enemy's woman, whilst the enemies life hangs in the balance. Yet sacrifice is the order to the day as Ben saves she who is branded, forever an outcast. A deal is made and prisoner becomes doctor and aid. Very soon a close bond grows..leading to a round of football and a game of chess.
