Dharma probably used all kinda of animals, but we only got a chance to see rabbits and polar bears. I mean, how did those boars ended up on Island? Not to mention birds and insects. I still remember that strange bird in S1 when six of them went to Black Rock...
Rabbits are animals most suitable for experiments and testings. That's why so many companies uses them in their researches.
