Post Cassidys Story (for now)

This is the first time I have ever let anyone read things that I have written other than my best friend. Try not to be too hard on me, but constructive criticism is appreciated. I hope you like it. More chapters will hopefully follow soon. Enjoy!

Cassidys Story - Chapter 1

The room was dark considering it was only eight o’clock at night. A storm threatened its way across the sky swallowing up what bit of sunlight had been left in the day. Without any air conditioning, the room was hot and with the approaching rain, it was quickly becoming muggy. Cassidy layed on the bed watching the ceiling fan do its best to circulate the stale air that permeated the room. She wondered to herself how the little girl she once was had become the woman she is today. Suddenly an enormous clap of thunder shook the skies causing her to jump in fright. She giggled out loud, realizing that thankfully, that little girl was still somewhere within her. If only she could let her out more often.

It was quickly getting hotter and the sheets were more than uncomfortable against her sunburned skin. “Ouch,” she said aloud to herself as her finger touched her red shoulder. She wasn’t one to burn easily, but she was from the north and apparently her skin wasn’t quite use to southern sun just yet. She slipped out of bed deciding that a nice cold shower would cool her off and clear her head. The only light in the room was filtering through the small opening in the drapes. Cassidy could see the green vacancy sign blinking on the hotel marquee through the opening. While she stared at the sign, the light suddenly turned red and flashed no vacancy. She quickly walked to the window and peeked out at the parking lot in front of her. She had been at this motel for a week now and knew (at least from a distance) all of its occupants. It was a small motel, boasting only 10 rooms and one had been empty since she had arrived. She looked around the parking lot trying to find the vehicle the newcomer may have arrived in. It was tough to see through the rain and she found herself wishing for the lightning to come more frequently so she could see better. The parking lot was small and she finally spotted the new visitors car. “Red”, she realized as a bolt of lightning lit up the night sky. A red Honda with a sunroof. Her shoulders sagged with relief with the knowledge that she was probably still safe here for another night. If someone was following her, they surely wouldn’t do it in such a noticeable vehicle.

She pulled the drapes completely closed and walked to the door of her room. She wanted to check the lock and deadbolt on the door one more time. Better safe than sorry. Her fears were put to rest upon finding that everything was locked, just as it had been the last three times she had checked. She walked to the bathroom and reached in to turn on the dim light that hung above the bathroom mirror. It wasn’t much of a bathroom, but it was clean and The Hilton was not an option. She undressed and climbed into the cold shower feeling instant relief as the water caressed her hot skin. She leaned her head back and began to wash her blond hair allowing the water to wash away some of her stress, nervousness, and fear. Although her tension was dissipating, her mind kept coming back to the very thing that had brought her to this town and motel to begin with. She tried to squelch all of her worries and enjoy her shower. She needed to get some sleep tonight so that she could get back to the task at hand tomorrow.

Feeling better after her shower, Cassidy was finally beginning to get sleepy. She lay in the darkened room wondering if what that woman had told her could possibly be true. Why did she believe her enough to get into her car and travel half way across country? There was an urgency in the woman’s voice that Cassidy could not just toss aside. She rolled onto her side and closed her eyes. Tomorrow night she would leave this motel and be one step closer to finally meeting this mystery lady who insisted that they meet in person to discuss the issue further. The phones may not be safe, she warned. Cassidy finally began to fall asleep although it would be a restless sleep. Persistent dreams of Sawyer throughout the night would have her tossing and turning one more night.
