Just a quick comment which I've pondered for a while but never really found a place to mention it's relevance.
When Boone died, he did so because Locke had lost the use of his legs. Maybe the island had given John the sign to go up to where he followed Yemi, but as Locke got it wrong, this is why he lost his legs.
What I'm thinking is Locke got the sign wrong, I think Emily was also pointing to the same place as the plane flew from, i.e he was meant to go up to where he could see the ?, not to the plane, so the island tried to stop him, therefore Boone wasn't really a sacrifice, more of an accident as it wasn't meant to be that way.
I think the dreams and visions are different things, so I'm not comparing it to all the visions, like Christian, Kate's horse, Walt, etc... But I'm sure there are more example, like when Charlie dreamt he had to save Aaron, in hindsite he's still using Hurley, like in his dream off island. Again Charlie read the dream really wrong, like I think Locke had.
I hope I've made sense and haven't gone off the topic but I thought this was sort of relevant and another side of the same coin.
