However, I wonder how on Earth they came across it in the first place - though I would imagine there are ways to detect such phenomena. I would not put it past them knowing what they were looking for.

I would imagine so. The area beneath the Island was apart of the Island so I can only assume it moved also. How do you know the Hydra Station was moved? Though yes I would also believe that would move also.
