Can anyone offer up any explanations as to why the creators had Jack save Desmond's life on the raft? It's almost passed me by, but considering Jack's hang-ups on being the "hero" and getting everyone home, i'm thinking that the writers put it in there for a reason.
Was it to make their "see you in another life" goodbye more powerful..or was it to add another layer on Jack's 'hero' complex?
It just seems strange, because (imo) compared to his other 'heroics' (i.e. ressucertating Charlie in S1), it seems a little half-hearted on the part of the creators.
