I don't think we necessarily know for certain that Jin is dead. The Oceanic 6 are hiding a huge secret. Jin still being on the island could be one of them. In the scene where they are still in the Coast Guard plane and Jack tells everyone the reporters will just think they are in shock, Sun replies, "We are in shock, Jack". Sun is not crying, nor does she look distraught. She just looks, well, shocked.
It couldn't have been that long since Jin would have died and the Oceanic 6's rescue that Sun woud no longer be grieving.

Tbh I think Desmond is the most likely to survive, I dont thinkt they would build up the story with Penny the way they have this season just to kill Des off randomly. If he does die before the end of the show it'll be in some way connected to Penny

I think that Desmond will survive this too. Also, unless Michaels work is truly done, he can't die. Desmond is a very important part of this story and I don't see how they can kill him off just yet without disappointing alot of fans. It will be interesting to see how they pull this all off because we all know that freighter is going to blow!
