Interesting.

I think that the issue of mental health is one which underpins the nature of Lost..the island and the visions. As I mentioned a few weeks back, the things theyve experience on the island would be enough to either send them to theloony bbin or have them sent to the loony bin..in the real world.

And so it goes..Hurley sits up all night talking to "Charlie". Charlie or the smoke monster..

I guess it doesn't matter..he's dead..yet he's also here..

I think that going back the island could be the thing that saves Hurley from a life of madness. He seems able to cope, perhaps his threshold to 'crazyness' is higher than Jack's, due to his past experience (Dave etc)? But even so, he too seems on the edge. Perhaps the only way for him/them to return to the island and 'get better', is to collectively will it to happen? Jack's already tried 'hoping' that the plane would crash over the Pacific..perhaps he needs more of the 6 to collectively want to return in order for it to 'happen'? Afterall, he seemed near certain in his nature that Kate's membership to the 'Island Return' club would be the thing which would allow them to go back:

"We've gotta go back, kate..Weve gotta go back!!" (3.23)

Is Kate the key to the island 'letting' them return? Are all of them needed like a team of Thundercats banding together?

If so why doesn't the island just 'make' them go back..heck, why all the visions..just grab Jack's butt and drag him back..

Ah..because it can't..the island can manipulate freewill, but it cannot overide it...?

As for Hurley and "Charlie", I think it's guilt - Hugo was always the guilty type - he blamed himself for the plane crash, he even blamed himself for the deaths of those around him. The island helped him to regain his confidence and perspective - I think that post island he is guilty for being alive..yet he also doesn't seem to believe that he's alive - a self-petuating guilt with no foundation in reality. Hurley as gone off the reservation, yet he enjoy's his 'chats' with "Charlie". Perhaps it's because "Charlie" is the only one who visits him on a regular basis? Perhaps it's because "Charlie" is the only on who truely understands him?

But even "Charlie" wants somethiing..even "Charlie" has an agenda..

Whether Charlie is Hugo's subconcious guilt, the spirit of the Rock God, or the island doing Island things...

...Poor Hugo..is really is screwed.
